Accident on Putney Road

I was the victim of that accident. I payed attention to my surroundings on both sides, and was in a crosswalk. I was fully sober, as I am now. I have been in recovery and AA for over a month now. I was struck by the car on the outside of my left leg, so I had definitely already gotten through the close lane (with a car, its headlights on, waiting) or else I was hit by a car crossing lanes.

I imagine the police must have identified the driver by now, as there was busy traffic leading down to the triangle and an officer was on site rapidly. My mom and uncle were speaking to an officer not far away when the accident occurred, and he naturally rushed to the scene. I was told by an officer at the hospital that the driver had been a man in his 80s who had simply not seen me.

I was also told that I have been thrown forward 20 feet by the collision. I have attempted multiple times today to ask the police department for details or the identity of the driver, but they have not responded. I was not able to remember much more of the incident, for obvious reasons. I do recall however that my friend Collette, who works as a cashier at the Food Co-op, was holding my hand as I regained consciousness.

Also, I am starting recall visual data from just before the crash. I may be able to identify the vehicle in a lineup.

  • Get well!

    Hi Jesse,

Sorry to hear that you were hit like this. It’s quite a story. Rarely do we have people sharing the point of view of the accident victim. Often it is only a police report. I hope you recover well. Maybe some Berg will help pass the recovery time. : )

It should be sobering for all and a reminder to be careful while walking and driving, especially this time of year, and especially in places where cars are crossing lanes AND there is a crosswalk. There is a lot to keep track of when negotiating that simple bit of road by the courthouse.

  • Heal Fast and Well

Sorry this has happened to you, Jesse. I hope there are no lasting effects and someone finds the driver and you are compensated.
