Noticed Around Brattleboro – Spring 2015

Time for another installment of “what have you noticed in Brattleboro recently?”

Here are a few to get us started:

– Brattleboro Savings & Loan is building a new branch office at Black Mountain Square, near their ATM and next to the Radio Shack.

– Radio Shack, btw, has become slightly smaller to make room for the bank. They have many signs up letting people know that this location intends to stay open.

– Strolling of the Heifers has a spruced up the front of the River Garden. A new sign lets everyone know their name.

– Top of the Hill Grill is open again for the season.

– A new Vape supply store has opened near the grill, in the former location of the pizza place.

What little things have you noticed?

When the windows are open the smell of the weed my neighbors are smoking wafts through my bedroom window at night. 🙂

    • Sweet dreams

All I get is cigarette smoke. Can I bring a cot? 🙂
      Sweet dreams.

I get cigarette smoke in my living room and dining room. The back of the house just gets the tantalizing scent of marijuana- which helps with my insomnia. The downside is that the neighbors smoking it like to have lengthy late night conversations about how many animals they killed during this past hunting season. Everything’s a trade off..

        • The Buttheads are indeed a plague

The Buttheads are indeed a plague, with deadly infectious consequences, anytime of the year.

But they are particularly onerous during our fresh air seasons that we clear and healthy lung people would like to enjoy.

And people with medical conditions that is compromised by Buttheads stink.

  • Milagros coming back

Milagros is renewing the liquor license and plans to be open again in the near future.

    • Hmm...that's interesting.

Hmm…that’s interesting. Wonder what will change to make it more profitable this time around? I hope it doesn’t mean their prices will sky rocket. I always enjoyed their food.

      • A slight change, it appears

Has a new sign up, and is now called Brattle Burger.

        • Hmmmm..

That’s somewhat disappointing. Not sure we need yet another place to get a burger – almost every restaurant in town serves burgers. I was hoping they would revive their Mexican menu.

  • Elliot Street Laundromat

There’s action at the long-empty Spic and Span building across from the Fire Station.

Andrzej has his Polish food cart set up on Flat Street, below Emerson’s.

The roof deck opens at Whetstone Station on May 7th.

  • BMAC

BMAC getting a new outdoor art installation.

  • Bench and Rock Still Gone

The bench and large, colorful rock right over the Coop Bridge have STILL not returned.

  • Buds

Saw my first tree limb buds a few days ago.

  • Grafton Village Cheese - third Fridays

Looks like Grafton Village Cheese is offering special tastings on third Fridays 6-7:30.

  • Couple more

New bridal shop on Main street. Fancy gowns in the window.

Turquoise Grille is open at the Brooks House.

    • We had dinner at the

We had dinner at the Turquoise Grille this week. Had grilled lamb kabobs and they were delicious. The staff is friendly, service was good. It’s not a particularly warm and welcoming space- lots of dark wood, dark colors but their salads and Turkish style choices were quite tasty. I’m always happy when a restaurant opens that has some authentic ethnic food.( they also offer some interesting burgers if you’re not the adventurous type!)

  • First sounds of Woody

Passing a wooded lot on Western, I heard the unmistakably repeating tapping of a woodpecker.

I’m so glad cgroke started this thread…either my Spring antenna has raised or my already raised antenna is picking up more, but this gives us a chance to post and share our Noticed Around Brattleboro.

Will there be a summer Noticed Around Brattleboro?

  • Another Victim of a Failed Economy?

Did Mr.G’s close? Looks like the sign was gone. Kinda stinks trying to survive under Socialist Tyranny when a place like that goes.

  • May 1

Work begun on improving Union Hill/Western Ave intersection.

  • May 1, II

A “Black Lives Matter” sign on the Common.

  • comics

New comic book, game, and consignment shop going in on Flat street across from the Boys & Girls Club.

    • arts

The former laundromat on Elliot opposite firehouse is undergoing reconstruction. When i asked, the guys there said it’s going to be a new arts center of some sort.

      • My understanding is that it's

My understanding is that it’s going to be a community space available to rent for art exhibits or various events. Supposed to have a full kitchen space which will be nice.

  • Elliot Street is hopping

Looks like a new café “Red Rooster Café” is going in where Elliot Street Café used to be. I miss Elliot St Café- best breakfasts in town.
