WBA Plans April 9th Meeting on Village Streetscape

On Thursday, April 9th at 7:00 PM the West Brattleboro Association (WBA) is hosting a meeting to discuss ways to spruce up the West Brattleboro village streetscape. Called a Charrette, this meeting will provide a forum in which stakeholders collaborate in a creative design process. It will be held  in the Melrose Terrace
Community Room.

All residents are invited to talk about such topics as where to place new plantings, whether to place public sculpture and/or book exchange boxes, and a multitude of other street enhancing ideas. Representatives from
the Brattleboro Planning Services Department, Windham Regional Commission and Brattleboro Department of Public Works will help facilitate the meeting. For more information on this meeting, call Michael Bosworth at 258-6475.

The venue can be reached via George F. Miller Drive off Western Avenue across from the First Congregational Church. People can either access the meeting by entering through the right side entrance (where there is more public parking) or by the front entrance under the columns.

This meeting is in addition to the regular April monthly meeting at 6:00, immediately preceding the Charrette, at which the WBA normally discusses safety and economic development issues in addition to making plans for events in the community. The purpose of the Association is to promote the thoughtful and effective evolution of the community of West Brattleboro as a place that is safe, healthy, attractive, and prosperous. Regular meetings are held on the second Thursdays of the month at 6:00 PM (next one, April 9th) and are open to all residents and business owners.

  • room for renovation

One thing to consider, perhaps, is that our town really started in West B.

The ‘West Village’ was home to our meetinghouse, town clerk, and quite a bit of business back in the day. The modern day West Village might be at a bit of an advantage, compared to downtown, as the “look and feel” of the area still has ample opportunity for alterations.

Downtown is fairly well set. West B has room for reinvention.
