    • Brattleboro Show?

I seem to have lost a big text post and some links as I’m leaving Brattleboro, which is probably for the best.

Brattleboro needs an arts exhibit? Well, it could do worse than these, online tributes:

      Philly Random Act of Kindness

      Spanish Ode to Joy

      Dueling Pipers

Wouldn’t it be great if someone came up with something that was both memorable and memorable?

      • Ideas set aside

I put in a proposal, but went through a few (rejected) ideas before landing on one I liked.

        I rejected:

        – Mini-golf sculpture garden. The price tag for a good mini-golf set-up is closer to $200k. Out of budget.

        – Brattleboro Community Carousel – Out of budget range, and a good one is being done nearby in the Berkshires.

        – Brattleboro Town Circus – I think this can be done within budget, but the timeframe is a bit tight to pull off something great. Mixture of local pro and amateur acts, town circus band, a parade…

        – A custom-animated opening for films at the Latchis. Rejected for being a bit too site specific and not general enough for the RFP.

        • I like the idea of a carousal

I like the idea of a carousal or mini golf! Do you know if – once the proposals are narrowed down – if there will be opportunities for public input?
I’m just wondering if this is one of those situations where the SB doesn’t want/need/care about any public thoughts and will make a final decision based on whatever they think is best. I know there’s a lot of parameters of what will fit in the town; money, etc. But, public art. Be good if there was at least some public input.

          • A bit

It seems to be mostly the decision of the screening and selection committees, and the Selectboard.

It does say this in the schedule, though:

            “On 9/8 or 9/9 . . . . . . . Public Selection Process by Selection Committee”

So, that may be the public’s official chance to weigh in, via the Selection Committee. All the other meetings of committees and boards should be ope, too, and I’m sure they’d take input from people who show up.

I imagine, too, we’ll have a narrowed down list available here for discussion, too.
