Next WBA Meeting on May 12th to Discuss Potential Re-use of Current West B Fire Station

The regular monthly meeting of the West Brattleboro Association (WBA) will be held on Thursday, May 12th at 6:00 PM at the New England House, 254 Marlboro Road. After a review of the treasury report, spring plantings, the last BizUp meeting and other issues, the WBA will discuss details of the Chicken BBQ coming up on Saturday, May 28th.

A feature every year of the group, the popular Chicken BBQ will once again happen in front of the First Congregational Church on Western Avenue in West Brattleboro. The menu will feature half chickens, baked beans, and coleslaw or salad, available from 11:00 a.m. until sold out.  More information on the event will be forthcoming.

Other items on the regular agenda include the response of the Brattleboro Planning Services Department to
our letter requesting notification of hearings to abutters when they are members of a land co-operative. In addition, the group will get an update on the Neighborhoods Fund grant writing progress.  This initiative helps the WBA provide funds to neighborhood groups doing their own service work, improving their grounds, etc. The meeting will also talk about next steps concerning our neighborhoods and drugs.

The WBA will have an important discussion concerning potential re-purposing of the current West B fire station once the new station is built. The Town plans to demolish the current one, so the association will need to come up with a very solid re-use plan and the money to carry it out.  Community center?  “Maker” space?  People should bring their ideas and thoughts.

Meeting on the second Thursdays of the month, the next regular gathering of the West Brattleboro Association is June 9th, venue TBA.

The purpose of the Association is to promote the thoughtful and effective evolution of the community of West Brattleboro as a place that is safe, healthy, attractive, and prosperous and also to help West B residents be informed Brattleboro community members.  WBA monthly meetings are open to all residents and business owners, and anyone else interested in West B.
