  • Pedestrian lights

Why does the town install automatic pedestrian lights which stop traffic in four directions (instead of the traditional two directions) to allow pedestrians to cross? This means that even when there are no pedestrians, the lights still hold up four instead of two directions of traffic meaning an extra cycle of waiting and idling for no reason. Why were the manually-activated pedestrian buttons taken out for these automatic pedestrian crossings at lights? There are not too many lights in Brattleboro but this occurs in all municipalities throughout the nation that I have encountered. And it makes no sense except if we want to burn gas for nothing.
