Brooks Memorial Library Children’s Room will be Closed!

Due to rennovations, the Brooks Memorial Library Children’s Room will be closed from Monday, February 6th through Saturday, February 11th. The rest of the library will be open, and patrons can drop off books downstairs throughout the week. Thank you for your patience as we work on building a better library.

      The children’s room at our local library when I was little was the launching pad for my interest in so many topics. I remember checking out science guides by Herbert Zim, reading bios of Houdini and Walt Disney, checking out books on drawing by Ed Emberley, reading various how-to books, and wondering what was up the fancy stairs in the grownup part of the library.

      It’s interesting to me how much those topics took hold and shaped much of my life.

        My grammar school didn’t have Nancy Drew and my parents couldn’t buy them at the rate I was reading them. So the children’s section was my Tuesday and Friday afterschool activity. I discovered horror there, too. And the Lord of the Rings. And A Wrinkle in Time… and…
