Brattleboro Selectboard Meeting January 12, 2021 – Agenda and Notes

Outstanding FY22 budget issues will be discussed at the next regular meeting of the Brattleboro Selectboard. How much paving should be done? Should board members get more compensation? Should one local media outlet (BCTV) be favored with funding from taxpayers? How much should Brattleboro spend on Human Services?

The board will also continue discussion of the Community Safety Review report and extend a contract for financial services. You can bring up other items not on the agenda during public participation.

The Brattleboro Selectboard will met on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, using Zoom (with no physical location due to the ongoing social distancing requirements of COVID-19).  The Board will convene at 5:30pm and is expected to enter into executive session to discuss the negotiating or securing of real estate purchase or lease options and the appointment or employment or evaluation of a public officer or employee.  The Board will reconvene at 6:15pm for the business portion of the meeting.  The attached agenda and administrative report contain information on how to access the meeting remotely, including the required “passcode.”  Information about how to connect to the meeting is also posted on the homepage of the Town’s website.  ASL interpreters will be available for deaf and hard-of-hearing community members.

7. UNFINISHED BUSINESS A. FY22 Proposed Budget

The Board will give further consideration to the above listed matters and may make final decisions regarding how much funding to include for these matters in the FY22 Proposed budget that the Selectboard will recommend for approval at Representative Town Meeting.

B. Community Safety Review 

(i) Continued Consideration of Community Safety Team’s Report + Recommendations 

(ii) Disband Community Safety Review Committee per Facilitators’ Request 

The Board will consider the report and recommendations, including further discussion with the two facilitators and further input from the public. The Board will be asked to formally disband the Community Safety Review Committee, since the committee’s final report and recommendations have been received and no additional meetings of the committee are planned.

(ii) POTENTIAL MOTION: TO DISBAND THE COMMUNITY SAFETY REVIEW COMMITTEE AND THANK THE MEMBERS OF THE COMMITTEE FOR THEIR SERVICE. 

8. NEW BUSINESS 

A. Extension of Agreement with Melanson for Contractual Finance Director Services 

The Board is asked to authorize an extension of the agreement with Melanson, PC, for the continued provision of contractual Finance Director Services through May 31, 2021, as set forth in Town Manager Peter Elwell’s memorandum dated January 7, 2021, in the Selectboard’s backup materials for this meeting. 

POTENTIAL MOTION: TO AUTHORIZE TOWN MANAGER PETER ELWELL TO EXECUTE AN EXTENSION OF THE AGREEMENT WITH MELANSON, P.C., FOR CONTINUED PROVISION OF CONTRACTUAL FINANCE DIRECTOR SERVICES THROUGH MAY 31, 2021.
