I-91 Brattleboro Bridge Replacement Project Update: Week of February 7

I-91

To reduce congestion on I-91, both Exit 3 on ramps will be closed on Sunday, February 7, from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm. I-91 will remain open.

Weekend closures of the Exit 3 on ramps will continue each weekend through the end of February. The closures will be on Sunday afternoons; except that on three-day weekends, closures will be on Mondays.

Northbound I-91 traffic has been relocated onto the southbound bridge. Traffic will remain reduced to one lane in each direction on I-91 until completion of the new bridge. The new bridge will be 104’ wide and is designed to carry all four lanes of traffic –two northbound and two southbound.

Route 30

The speed limit on Route 30 near the work zone has been reduced to 40 mph. Project-related truck activity on Route 30 will continue. Route 30 may be reduced to a single lane intermittently, with flaggers regulating traffic within the work zone.

Upper Dummerston Road

Upper Dummerston Road will be closed for a two-day period between February 22nd and February 27th so that the project team can erect girders for Bridge 8. No traffic will be permitted through the I-91 right-of-way during the closure. We will give stakeholders as much advance notice of the exact timing of the two-day closure as possible.

West River Trail

The West River Trail is open. There are intersections between construction access and the trail path, and users should exercise extreme caution at these intersections. As an additional safety precaution, users of the West River Trail are reminded to keep pets on a leash in this area.

West River

The northbound bridge over the West River has been removed. No project-related impacts to recreational boaters are anticipated.

Text Alert System

A text alert system for the Brattleboro Bridge Replacement Project makes it possible to receive text notifications of:

• Interstate ramp closings,

• Closings of I-91,

• Closings of VT Route 30 (but not single lane closings of RT 30), and

• Any other situations regarding time sensitive project-related traffic issues.

Project Progress

· Casting of the segments will continue through the winter.

· Construction of the Pier Table at Pier 2 was completed this week with the placement of the deck on Tuesday. Crews will spend the next month dismantling the formwork system in preparation for the form traveler to be relocated from Pier 1.

· Construction of the North Abutment is underway and will continue through the winter.

· Abutment work at the new bridge over Upper Dummerston Road has begun and will continue through the winter. Girder erection is tentatively scheduled for late February.

· The new roadway alignment will continue through the 2016 non-winter season.

Trail Talks

We will continue to hold trail talks for the community. The next Trail Talk will be held this coming spring.

Safety

Please focus on safety when driving through the construction work zone and remember that it is now against the law for drivers to use a hand-held cell phone.
