Brattleboro Citizens’ Breakfast Invitation – Gun Sense Vermont: A Sensible Approach?

The next “Brattleboro Citizens’ Breakfast” will take place on Friday,  October 18, 2013 at the Gibson Aiken Center, downstairs, hosted by Senior Meals. Doors open at 7:30am.

We plan to hear from Ann Braden of Gun Sense Vermont  ~ http://gunsensevt.org/ ~   The presentation will include the current state of Vermont gun laws and proposals for change.

Is there a need for a change? Here are some statistics to think about and explore:

Gun Sense Vermont, a 501(c)(4) organization, is composed of  gun owners and non-gun owners;  doctors and teachers;  hunters and veterans; civic leaders and religious leaders. Members come from 140 different Vermont towns. The organization  promotes gun safety laws that respect the Second Amendment and protect our children and communities by keeping guns out of the wrong hands.

  • A Beatle View

I was looking for a George Harrison quote for the top of the site this week, and almost chose one about his feelings on gun ownership, but passed it over for something a bit more uplifting.

    The gun quote is provocative:

“If everyone who had a gun just shot themselves, there wouldn’t be a problem.”
    ― George Harrison

Seems a bit extreme to me, but I get his general point. People who don’t have guns aren’t shooting anyone, aren’t getting accidentally shot by their dog, don’t have kids accidentally shoot themselves, and aren’t taking weapons to work.

    • Whenever I read another of

Whenever I read another of those horrible headlines about how some husband or boyfriend (because it frequently seems to be a man)who has murdered his wife or girlfriend and their kids and then committed suicide I always wish he had just committed suicide first and left everybody else alone. That never seems to happen.
