WRC Seeks Public Comment on Renewable Energy Grant Program

The Vermont Clean Energy Development Fund has awarded $400,000 to the Windham Regional Commission (WRC) to develop a grant program to support renewable energy projects in Windham County. The program will focus on small-scale projects. Award amounts are proposed to begin in the $10,000 range and go up to $320,000. The WRC will host a public meeting in the Townshend Town Hall, 2006 Route 30 Townshend, Vermont Thursday, September 29th at 6 pm to solicit public feedback on the program proposal. RSVPs are preferred though not required to mmajor@windhamregional.org.

The proposal may be modified based upon public comments and suggestions. The program is outlined on the WRC website under the Energy tab or at this link: http://windhamregional.org/energy/grant-program-feedback. Comments will be accepted until 5 pm on October 5th.

The funds for the program are among those within the Vermont Clean Energy Development Fund (CEDF) that were earmarked for Windham County in the settlement agreement negotiated between the state and Entergy Vermont Yankee in December, 2013. The program will directly benefit Windham County while furthering the goals of the CEDF and the State of Vermont by investing in clean, renewable energy contributing to Vermont’s ever-greening energy portfolio.

Grant applications will be accepted beginning November 1, 2016.Those projects that receive grant funding must be developed by May 31, 2017.
