Brattleboro Water Main Flushing To Begin

Utilities Division crews will start Spring Flushing of the Town water mains on Thursday, April 23, 2020 at 10:00 p.m. and continue through Saturday, May 11, 2020 NOTE: Some daytime flushing will continue throughout the weeks of May 13th and 20th

Customers are asked to check the flushing schedule closely as flushing causes water discoloration, low water pressure and in some areas, intervals of no water. Please note that water main flushing will occur at night and during the day.

Have You Taken The 2020 Census?

If you have not completed your census yet, now is a great time. You can complete it without leaving home or coming in contact with another person. There are three simple ways to complete the Census:

1. Online: Go to www.2020census.gov. Can’t find your 12-digit code that you received in the mail? No problem just follow the instructions and you will still be able to complete the questionnaire on-line.

2. By Phone: Call 844-330-2020 to get started in English. The 2020 Census can be completed by phone in 14 different languages.

Release of the Southeastern Vermont COVID-19 Resources for Individuals Guide

During this uncertain time of the COVID-19 pandemic, it can be very confusing to know where to go locally to learn about resources that can be useful. A new COVID-19 resource guide, aimed at individuals living in southeastern Vermont, is now available. This resource list is a compilation of currently known programs and activities relevant to people living in southeastern Vermont.  The resource can be found on the Windham Regional Commission’s website by visiting http://www.windhamregional.org/.  If you are in immediate need of assistance, call Vermont’s resource line by dialing 2-1-1 about help and resources.

Elevator Repairs – Brattleboro Transportation Center

The elevator at the Brattleboro Transportation Center was taken offline at the end of October, 2019 following an act of vandalism which destroyed the communications equipment within the elevator and rendered the unit out of compliance with applicable building safety code. The cab of the elevator was already scheduled for replacement in the FY20 Parking Capital program and so rather than repair the damage the decision was made to initiate the cab replacement project. 

Water Quality Partners Address Clean Water in Windham Region

Windham Regional Commission (WRC) and the Windham County Natural Resources Conservation District (WCNRCD) are pleased to announce expanded outreach and services to municipalities and the public to improve tactical basin planning efforts for the West, Williams and Saxtons River and Direct CT River Tributaries (Basin 11/13). In addition to the basin planning efforts, the WRC and WCNRCD will also support overall water quality efforts throughout Windham County.  The work is supported through a grant provided by the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation. Activities began this fall and will extend through September 2020.

Green Mountain Conservancy to Add 626 Acres to Deer Run Nature Preserve

The Green Mountain Conservancy has signed a Purchase and Sale Agreement to acquire and conserve 636 acres of wild land in Newfane and Brookline. This land abuts the first 287 acres conserved as part of the Deer Run Nature Preserve in Dummerston and Brookline.

These 626-acres of forestland and ridgeline comprise the southern terminus of the Putney Mountain Ridge, contiguous to 287 acres the GMC has already conserved. The Phase II property rises from 360 feet above sea level at the West River shoreline to 1,460 feet at its highest point. The terrain varies from the flat fields to steep slopes, plateaus and overlooks.

Marlboro Road Water Service Interruptions

 The DPW Utilities crew is working to correct a leak on a 16” water valve located on Marlboro Rd. Service interruptions were expected and warned for yesterday. Unanticipated circumstances will result in water service interruption today, October 22nd between 8:00 AM and 3:00 PM. The area of water service interruption will be between #254 and #1205 Marlboro Rd. 

Water service interruptions should be expected between the hours of 8 A.M. and 3 P.M. 

Brattleboro Planning Commission: We Need Your Input!

The Brattleboro Planning Commission is working on a Downtown Design Plan, which will describe and illustrate the community’s vision for future downtown improvements and projects. This planning process will address:

Improving routes, access and circulation for pedestrians and bicyclists;
Incorporating green stormwater practices into streets and public spaces;
Identifying opportunities for creative placemaking that use arts and cultural activities to enliven and revitalize public spaces; and
Enhancing long-term economic stability for downtown businesses.

Starting Tuesday, September 17, Northeast Paving (a contractor of the Town) will begin the paving portion of our annual capital paving project. Weather permitting, the following schedule is anticipated:

Tuesday, September 17
Old Guilford Road – One-way alternating traffic. Expect traffic disturbances.

What’s Popping Up in Downtown Brattleboro?

Brattleboro’s Better Block Challenge will be held this weekend (September 20-22). Debuting on Friday night and running through Sunday, residents and visitors to downtown can check out temporary installations that are designed to transform spaces in downtown into active, vibrant and safer public spaces.

Better Block activities will take place on Friday from 5 to 8, Saturday 9 to 3, and Sunday, 10 to 2. Stop by the orientation booth in the Latchis Gallery at 50 Main Street as you visit the three pop-up Better Block projects installed around downtown.

Living Memorial Park Temporary Road Closure

The Brattleboro Recreation and Parks Department would like to announce that the Living Memorial Park Road will be closed from 9:30 – 11:00 AM on Friday September 20TH due to a crane that will be blocking the road to install a gear box on the LMPSS T-Bar.  We are sorry for any inconvenience.
