· RT 30 will be closed tomorrow (Wednesday) starting at 7:00 AM. This is required to finish the concrete operations over RT30.

During her visit to the Bank, Congresswoman Kuster met SBW employees and customers and also learned more about the Bank’s operations and role as a community partner.

SEVENTH ANNUAL WINGS OF HOPE BUTTERFLY RELEASE FLUTTERS ONCE AGAIN ON SEPTEMBER 10
Purchase of Butterflies Raises Money for Hospice Programs

Lebanon, New Hampshire, August 29, 2016 – On Saturday, September 10th, hundreds of majestic Monarch butterflies will take flight simultaneously during the Wings of Hope butterfly release event to be held in Colburn Park in Lebanon from 1-3 p.m. The annual fundraiser, now in its seventh year, is presented by Visiting Nurse and Hospice for Vermont and New Hampshire (VNH) and is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the non-profit organization. Purchase of a butterfly for release is $20 and proceeds help support hospice care programs, patients and their families.


Western Avenue Paving Schedule

As part of the Town’s paving program, the Town has contracted with Vermont Roadworks LLC to resurface Western Avenue from Allerton Avenue to Chestnut Hill. They are currently scheduled to mill the pavement on August 30th, 2016 from 6:00 pm until 12:00 am (midnight). We anticipate paving Western Avenue on September 6, 2016 during the evening hours as well to reduce traffic impacts.

During these evenings, please find off street parking in this area.

SPRINGFIELD, VT—The Springfield Steampunk Festival, an official Vermont Arts 2016 event slated for September 23, 24, 25 features new musical performers, more workshops and many more vendors while embracing new intriguing and whimsical ideas from as far away as New Zealand. Splendid Teapot Racing was conceived by Simone Montgomery in Dunedin, New Zealand and premiered for the first time in 2014 at Steampunk NZ Festival in Oamaru. And now it premieres in Springfield, Vt. The Steampunk movement is truly international in scope.

Town of Brattleboro Invites Public Comment on Comprehensive Review of Town Operations (CRTO)

The Town of Brattleboro is reminding all residents that the draft Comprehensive Review of Town Operations (CRTO) document is posted on the Town’s website and that everyone is welcome to provide input. The deadline for submitting comments and suggested changes is Friday, September 9. The revised draft will be considered at the Selectboard meeting on September 20 or October 4.

The draft CRTO contains an introductory letter from Town Manager Peter Elwell and 50 separate “action items” in categories ranging from “Already Accomplished” and “in Progress” to short term (0-2 years), medium term (2-5 years), and long term (more than 5 years) timeframes for implementation. The draft document was created by the Town’s management team after it completed a thorough review of all Town services and support functions. The 50 action items represent small and large scale changes that staff is proposing to improve the community and/or save taxpayers money
.

Keene, NH, – Savings Bank of Walpole continues to branch out into the community and recently celebrated its future new Court Street, Keene location with a groundbreaking ceremony. The ceremony was held on Friday, August 5th at the site of the new branch located at 817 Court Street, (across from Dunkin Donuts). Attendees included several SBW executives and members of the bank’s Board of Trustees, along with the president and architect from local design/build firm Bensonwood, who are handling the design and construction of the building.


Twilight on the Tavern Lawn Presents Planet Zydeco on Sunday, August 21

Twilight Music concludes its 14th annual Twilight On The Tavern Lawn series of folk, world beat, rock, jazz, zydeco, Celtic, swing, blues and bluegrass summer concerts on Sunday, August 21 with an evening of high energy accordion/guitar driven dance music of Louisiana by Planet Zydeco.

The seventh and final concert of the 2016 series begins at 6:00 pm in downtown Putney on the Putney Tavern lawn (bring a lawn chair or blanket) or at Next Stage at 15 Kimball Hill in case of rain. The series is sponsored by the Town of Putney, Soundview Paper Company, The Putney Food Co-op, Green Mountain Well, The Stockwell Brothers and many other Putney businesses and organizations. Act 46 Update From Brattleboro Representatives

ACT 46 UPDATE FROM BRATTLEBORO.

The Brattleboro representatives from the Act 46 Study Committee will host a community forum on Wednesday, August 24th from 6-7.30 PM at Oak Grove School. This will be the final presentation of the proposed articles of agreement to the community, before the Study Committee officially votes on whether or not to send them to the Vermont Board of Education for approval.

The Brattleboro VFW is open to the public for lunch. Lunch is served Mon-Fri. from 11:30 am – 1:30 pm. Specials are $5.50 a plate, and burgers, fries, onion rings, chicken wings, soups and sandwiches are available each day.

I-91 Brattleboro Bridge Replacement Project Update: Week of August 22nd

I-91

Northbound I-91 traffic has been relocated onto the southbound bridge. Traffic will remain reduced to one lane in each direction on I-91 until completion of the new bridge. The new bridge will be 104’ wide and is designed to carry all four lanes of traffic –two northbound and two southbound.

To reduce congestion on I-91, both Exit 3 on ramps will be closed on Sunday, August 21st, from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm. I-91 will remain open.

Brattleboro Area Hospice to hold Hospice Care Volunteer Training and Seeks Participants

Beginning on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 Brattleboro Area Hospice will offer its hospice care volunteer training in Brattleboro, VT. This 33 hour volunteer training will run on Tuesday mornings from September 20 – November 29 from 9 am – 12 pm.

Throughout Windham County hospice volunteers aid neighbors and their families who are living with life-threatening illnesses. Help may range from running errands to gardening to emotional and physical support. Hospice care volunteers report the work as challenging yet very rewarding. Training topics include hospice philosophy, nuts and bolts of volunteering, ethical issues, reflection on personal attitudes toward death and dying, and grief issues among others. Presenters include professionals from the community as well as Hospice staff and volunteers.
