Minutes — June 11, 2025

CALL TO ORDER—5:06 p.m. — Anne Beekman
On a motion by Kim Price the board approved the minutes of May 14, 2025
Mark Speno discussed this afternoon’s end of year family picnic at Brattleboro Early Education Center, the new Canal Street School Pre-K facility. It was a great family event celebrating the work of the new Pre-K program. Parental feedback was great and they look forward to expanding next year. Mark thanked the board for their support of this endeavor.
On a motion by Kim Price the board accepted with great regret the resignation of Whitney Lynde as Special Education Coordinator.
The board expressed their appreciation for all of Whitney’s work in the SU.
On a motion by Deborah Stanford, the board voted to accept the administration’s recommendation to hire Jennifer Gates and Nina Rosen.
Presentation: How is Equity centered in our work to support all learners in the WSESU?
The board heard from Mikaela Simms (WSESU Diversity Coordinator), Shannon Kelly ( Equity and Social Justice Coach), and Teacher leaders Nina Nabizadeh (Guilford) and Nina Bond (Oak Grove) about the impact of their work with staff, building trust that in turn serves as a model for students, as well as how their work leads to a better understanding of needs.

Public Comment on Non-agenda items – there was none
The board reviewed the proposed new policy – Superintendent Evaluation and Contract. A discussion followed and the chair will reach out to our attorney with a clarifying question.
On a motion by Deborah Stanford the board voted to adopt the VSBA resolution as presented.
On a motion by Kerry Amidon, the board voted to appoint Anne Beekman to the Special Education Hiring Committee.

On a motion by Deborah Stanford the board adopted the following policies:

On a motion by Kerry Amidon, the board voted to adjourn at 5:56 pm.
