Weekend Concert Series: Buck Owens

This week is all about old-fashioned country music, featuring Buck Owens and the Buckaroos.

Like many, I got to know Buck Owens from the TV show Hee Haw. But he also had his own long-running show, the Buck Owens show.

Below we feature a 1990 concert, and episode two of the Buck Owens Show from 1966.

  • Buck Owens vs. Rap and Metal

I think I like this music much more than noisy, jumpy, hard to understand rap and metal rock. The lyrics tell a simple story, the words come at you slowly and deliciously as they sink into consciousness. Notes and lyrics are full of meaning and emotion. No need to rivet your attention to fast playing, fast talking in order to “get” everything. It washes over you and doesn’t try to jam it into your brain.

This makes me a musical old fogey I guess. So be it.

    • Buck Owens-real country

I enjoyed listening to this. Cou try music always tells good stories, it’s why Charlie Parker loved this kind of music so much.
Oh course, Nashville is producing a lot of “star-centric pretty people” country acts these days.
Probably the best of the new stars is Sturgil Simpson, check him out.

My mother liked country music so this brought back memories…
