Alasdair Fraser Band Brings Scottish and Castilian Traditions to Next Stage

PUTNEY — Next Stage Arts and Twilight Music present the Alasdair Fraser Band on Thursday, October 8, at 7:00 p.m. Doors open at 6:15 p.m. Tickets are $26 in advance, $30 at the door, and $10 for the livestream.

This new family collaboration brings together legendary Scottish fiddler Alasdair Fraser with his sons, Galen and Cameron Fraser, and Galen’s Castilian wife, María San Miguel. Rooted in the Scottish repertoire that has shaped Alasdair’s musical life, and enriched by a deep connection to the Iberian Peninsula, the quartet creates a vibrant, contemporary sound that moves between fiery dance tunes, lyrical airs, original compositions, and unexpected musical journeys.

Hailed by BBC Radio Scotland as “one of Scotland’s most valued tradition-bearers,” Alasdair Fraser has spent more than three decades bringing his virtuosic, joyful fiddle playing to concert halls and festivals worldwide. His music can also be heard in major film soundtracks including The Last of the Mohicans and Titanic. In 2011, he was inducted into the Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame.

Galen Fraser, a Berklee College of Music alumnus, and María San Miguel, an Oviedo Conservatory graduate, perform together as San Miguel Fraser. Their music combines heartfelt vocals, intricate string arrangements, and cittern with a fresh blend of Castilian and Celtic traditions. Cameron Fraser contributes a rhythmic drive and melodic sensibility shaped by a lifetime immersed in Scottish and Celtic music, including countless sessions in Glasgow.

Together, the Alasdair Fraser Band offers music grounded in heritage, alive in the present, and propelled by the pleasure of family members playing together.
