WHAT:
The Harris Hill Ski Jump, the only Olympic sized ski jump in New England, is celebrating its 100th anniversary this weekend, February 18-20 in Brattleboro, Vermont.

On Friday, February 18, an evening of FREE festivities will be held to kick off the weekend and celebrate the community as Harris Hill Ski Jump and The Brattleboro Outing Club celebrate their 100th anniversaries. The evening, which will run from 6-8 pm under the new lights, will include a ski jumping exhibition, local food and beverages and a fireworks display. The Harris Hill Ski Jump and Brattleboro Outing Club were founded by Fred Harris in 1922.

On Saturday and Sunday, more than 40 of the world’s top male and female ski jumpers from the US and Europe are scheduled to compete at Harris Hill in the Pepsi Challenge (Saturday) and the Fred Harris Memorial Tournament (Sunday). The event takes place on a 90-meter jump, the only Olympic sized ski jump in New England. Jumpers launch from the take off and soar more than 300 feet at speeds of nearly 60 mph. The event has a festive atmosphere for the whole family with food, music, souvenirs and a beer tent.

The weekend will serve as a stop on the US Cup competition of the United States American Ski Jumping (USASJ) series. In addition, there will be special events to mark the 100th anniversary, including a recognition ceremony of more than 50 former jumpers and the inauguration of Vermonter and Olympian Jim Holland into the Vermont Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame (Sunday).

Fun Fact: Every member of the 2022 U.S. ski jumping team competing in Beijing – Anna Hoffman, Kevin Bickner, Casey Larson, Decker Dean and Patrick Gasiencia – has jumped at Harris Hill.

    This just in:

” We are canceling tonight’s birthday celebration (Friday), so we can focus our efforts on additional snowmaking in preparation for this weekend’s competitions.

For Saturday and Sunday, our schedule has not changed. Gates open at 10 am tomorrow!

We look forward to celebrating our 100th anniversary of the Harris Hill Ski Jump.

Harris Hill has successfully dealt with Mother Nature’s challenges over these past 100 years and we’ll do it again this weekend.

    Best,
    Melissa
