I saw this also, right around 5 PM. Robbed again?

    • Perhaps

It certainly looked like it. Some being taken from the bank appeared rather shaken up, and were being comforted.

(A twitter user said they heard via police scanner a report of an explosive being left there. I haven’t been able to confirm this though.)

it appears there were two robberies that happened almost at the same time~ Wilmington and Brattleboro both at the People’s Bank. The one in Brattleboro seems to have a story that there was a suspicious package left at the bank. People on the street told me about a package. But the local police said it was a robbery. The people who may have committed the crime have not been apprehended yet. The corner is still taped off.

        • two in a day

I read that Wilmington had been hit earlier today, before running into this scene. Certainly looked like a scene of a robbery here in Brattleboro.

Interesting time to do it… traffic was crawling through town as it was in that late afternoon period when things slow to a crawl. We were coming down toward Malfunction Junction when we first spotted a police car in that intersection trying to get up Main Street, with some difficulty. People were blocking the car, and traffic was heavy so there wasn’t much wiggle room.

Not really sure what motivates bank robberies anymore. Tellers only keep a small amount in their drawers, there are cameras everywhere, they instantly notify the police as it is happening, you might get a dye pack… and so on. It’s quite hard, I’d imagine, to make off with more than a couple thousand. No more “cleaning the safe out” events like in old movies.

  • A bit more...

Bratt Police say they were called to “robbery and suspicious item in bank.”

Bomb squad was called in, and other news stories say the robber made a threat.
