Precautionary Boil Water Notice Issued for Sections of Brattleboro
The Town of Brattleboro has issued a precautionary Boil Water Notice for residents listed below following a water main break on the primary water lines on Green Street and Pine Street.
At this time, there is no indication that any cross-contamination has occurred. However, out of an abundance of caution and in accordance with State requirements, the Town is imposing this boil water notice until further notice to ensure public health and safety.

Resident Guidance
Residents in the affected areas are advised to boil all water used for potable purposes, including:
- Drinking
- Cooking and food preparation
- Making ice
- Brushing teeth
Water should be brought to a rolling boil for at least one (1) minute then allowed to cool prior to use.
Testing and Timeline
- Water samples will be collected Monday morning, August 24, 2026
- The sample will be sent to a certified laboratory for analysis to confirm the water is safe for potable use.
- Test results are expected by 2:00pm on August 25, 2026
Residents should continue boiling water for all potable use until the Boil Water Notice is officially lifted.
Notice Lift
Brattleboro Public Works crews are actively working to repair the water main breaks and restore normal water pressure. Once repairs are completed and pressure has been restored, the Town will complete required flushing and water quality testing in coordination with the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation.
Residents and businesses should continue boiling water for all potable uses until the Boil Water Notice is officially lifted. Once laboratory results confirm the water is safe, the Town will issue a follow-up notice informing residents that the Boil Water Notice has been lifted.
