Windham Region CEDS Release Pushed to December 5th to Address Short Term Post VY Strategies

Southeastern Vermont Economic Development Strategies (SeVEDS) has voted to change the date for the public release of the federally recognized Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) from October 24th to December 5th.

The six week delay was approved in order to ensure adequate time to accurately research and articulate short term impacts and development strategies in light of a date certain closure of Vermont Yankee.

SeVEDS has been compiling research and data, engaging the regions employers, municipalities and residents and working with national leading CEDS consultants ViTAL Economies to create a comprehensive plan for long term regional economic growth in Southeastern Vermont. That plan will become the regions federally recognized CEDS and will include 52 projects submitted from throughout the region.

The SeVEDS Post VY Taskforce, chaired by Stephan Morse of Newfane, assessed and reported on what economic and other impacts to the region would occur when Vermont Yankee closed. The regional growth strategies being developed by SeVEDS are long term and based on demographic and other existing data. Despite this pre planning work that has gone into envisioning mitigation of this economic loss, there are short term action steps that need to be developed and included in the CEDS. Chief among these short term strategies will be action items related to retention, retraining and recruitment of current Vermont Yankee Staff.

The December 5th CEDs release is slated to begin at 4:30 in Ragle Hall at Marlboro College. In addition to presentations by ViTAL Economy and SeVEDS board members, Vermont Agency of Commerce Secretary Lawrence Miller has been invited to address the region regarding its economic development efforts. The meeting is open to the public, but please help us plan and RSVP https://cedsrelease.eventbrite.com/
