  • PR move

They still deal drugs, selling pharmaceuticals. (Side effects include nausea, vomiting, hearing loss, addiction to painkillers, blurred vision, drowsiness, excessive sweating, torn stomach linings, blood clots, tumors, hair loss, nervousness, insomnia, and quite possible a cure for your ailment.)

    Just saying’… : )

    • All of that is true. They

All of that is true. They actually announced that they were discontinuing the sale of tobacco products several months ago – now they are inundating TV with ads because the new policy went into effect on September 1st.
I think it’s a good thing. Western medicine is always going to push drugs that have toxic and damaging side effects. Every once in awhile they actually work.

      • Gout

I am subject to occasional bouts of gout. To keep them at bay, I have always kept a small amount of Colchicine around. It has always worked for me.
Colchicine is an extract of a crocus and has been used medicinally since biblical times. A small jar of colchicine tablets used to cost me about 3 bucks.
Recently, the FDA banned the OTC sale of colchicine. Now, I am forced to buy prescription “Colcrys” at about 3 bucks a pill.

It works too, but no better.
Progress is our most important product.

        • yep

And profit is their only real concern.

          • “Breathe deep the gathering gloom…”

It is true there are a host a host of side effects, both in terms of effects and costs (profits) for many Pharmmies, but, what doesn’t sink into American and world consciousnesses is that cigarettes are more deadly, more dangerous, the most addictive, and more onerous than all other drugs, legal and illegal, combined; than all wars, than all industrial spills; all land, air and water pollution; and more than all other non-cigarette illnesses and diseases; all accidental deaths and harm;and, last but not least, than all peace and wartime direct and collateral deaths — combined.

There is nothing that comes close to the cigarette related 400.000 deaths, in America alone, year, after year, after year. And, while these deaths are taking place, huge numbers of people are chronically ill each year just waiting to take their place.

It is indeed, as the tile of this piece suggests “A step in the right direction.” Unfortunately, as usual, particularly with Americans, too little too late.

            “Breathe deep the gathering gloom…”

          • brings up feelings...

            moody and blue.

            So sorry couldn’t resist.

Serious issue and when I first learned that 400,000 deaths a year figure, I couldn’t believe it. Truly unacceptable. Not really something to joke about, but humor does help me keep moving forward.
