Heat Fund Thank You

On behalf of some of Windham County’s more vulnerable citizens the Windham County Heat Fund would like to thank all of the generous people who donated to the heat fund this year. We raised $27,020 and gave out $28,770. We carried over a small surplus from the previous year.

The fund received $8690 in local corporate and church donations from the Brattleboro Elks, St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, the Brattleboro Sunrise Rotary, Clear Solutions, Broad Brook Grange, American Postal Workers Union 3535, First United Methodist Church and the Insight Center. They are all perennial supporters of the heat fund, as is iBrattleboro who provides free advertising during the heating season. We could not do our work without them.

The Brattleboro-based Willard Trust has also been a constant source of support to the heat fund over many years and we are grateful for their generosity as well as the generosity of the Thomas Thompson Trust.
We would also like to thank the Ladies of the Rainbow for their continuing support over the years, contributing their time and talents to our fundraising efforts.

There are also a number of local individuals who are extremely generous to the heat fund. Most have donated every year for many years and send their checks without solicitation on our part. It reminds us that we live in a truly generous and socially responsible community.

This year we received donation from 80 individuals and helped 73 individuals/families to obtain heating fuel in the form of oil, kerosene, wood, wood pellets and electricity.

The heat fund’s expenses this year were $105 for advertising for the drag show. Daryl Pillsbury and I do not take any payment for our efforts and we donate postage, stationary and our time. We will continue to do so. We will start next heating season with a $1000 surplus and that will not be enough to meet demand before people receive their fuel assistance checks.

Thank you all for your generosity. Donations to the Windham County Heat Fund can be made anytime by sending a check to Richard Davis, 679 Weatherhead Hollow Rd. Guilford, VT 05301 or by depositing directly at the Brattleboro Savings and Loan.
