    • Marketing Inspired Media Scourge

Polls are one of the marketing inspired media scourges that has helped to wreck our society.

    • Do You Trust.....

You know, I really WANT to trust the government, and I guess that I do. I do not, however, trust politicians. I have always likened them to prostitutes who will do or say anything to achieve their ends. For me, it began with Bush #2. Since then, I abhor the entire process. I have never liked our current governor, and never have voted for him, too sleazy for me. Since Bush #2 I have not voted for a Republican even at the local level, and some of them are my friends. I know Leahy and Sanders personally, but think that they are just politicians out for the next election. They have been corrupted by the system. I don’t even trust some of our local politicians. The entire process is broken and I despair that it will get better.

      • Nixonian

Try living with that kind of mistrust since the Nixonian era. But the entire process is not really broken, just corrupted. Sometimes the corrupt are elected and sometimes the system corrupts.

      • Please don't blacken the

Please don’t blacken the reputation of prostitutes ( a victimless crime for the most part)by comparing them to the sleazy dirt bags we have in Congress. Their actions – unlike prostitutes- rarely bring any pleasure to anyone other than themselves and their crimes are far from victimless. Their actions destroy hundreds of thousands of people’s lives and they don’t blink an eye. I would offer that most politicians are more like pimps- out for themselves; luring in people with their pie in the sky promises and lies; vowing to take care of the people they represent and then, once they have what they want they show just how vicious, heartless and manipulative they are.
Of all the politicians I probably trust Bernie the most but even that’s not close to 100%.

        • Prostitutes vs. Politicians

Not unlike prostitutes, politicians take money( political contributions from big business) and provide a service. Not a victimless crime- we pay the price for it.

        • Victimless crimes-the creepiest form of policy and governance

Def: “A victimless crime is a term used to refer to actions that have been made illegal but which do not directly violate or threaten the rights of any other individual. It often involves consensual acts, or solitary acts in which no other person is involved. For example, in the United States, current victimless crimes include prostitution, gambling, and illicit drug use.”

Victimless crimes are arbitrary statues that make people criminals when they were not criminals before.

They are, in fact, the creepiest form of policy and governance.

I’m glad Kris brought that up because it was a poor analogy. Why should we trust politicians who do that to their fellow people?

    • Increasing trust?

I trust this one because it conforms to my preconceived observations and assumptions. Besides, what has the government done lately to increase trust?

  • Trust is like a belief system

The disparities between human classes are ancient and predate civilization (which is a misnomer itself, btw).

It’s significantly about dominance. It’s more likely the dominated fear, hate and resent their dominators than love them.

Also trust is an emotion. It isn’t necessarily based on facts (it’s more like a belief system). It’s why the word transparency is popular from our governors. They’d like you to think (believe) you know what they know.
