I’ve lived here for 15 years. I know there are so many amazing things about the Brattleboro area, but fear that like most folks, I’ve become blind to some of them due to familiarity.
I have a friend from out of town coming for a week. Suggestions on local must-do’s? Hidden gems? Things I may have forgotten we have?
I’ve got local restaurants covered. We’ll definitely take in a movie at the Latchis. Visiting the Brattleboro Museum is on the agenda. If the weather cooperates, we’ll hike the Retreat trails and maybe Fort Dummer.

Brattleboro Memorial Hospital officials announced the October 27 “” event organized by Brattleboro Ford raised $3,240.00 for “The Doorway to Exceptional Care” capital campaign.
Drive 4 UR Community is a Ford Motor Company program that enables local dealerships to support community groups and nonprofit organizations. The automobile manufacturer donated $20 for every test drive taken by an individual during the day-long event on the BMH campus. The proceeds will support the hospital’s efforts to raise $3.5 million from the community to renovate and expand its Emergency Department.

As Brattleboro Memorial Hospital wraps up it’s Doorway to Exceptional Care Capital Campaign for the Emergency Department we wanted to take a minute to say THANK YOU. Thank you to all who have given so generously and worked so hard to help bring about a new Emergency Department for our community.
We are also most to our $3.5 million goal. Many of you have made verbal commitments and have pledge cards sitting on your desk or table at home. Please fill them out and get them in so your support can be recognized and you can help get us over that last hurdle and to our goal.
I have a prescription and am now trying to remember the name of this store in or near Colony Mill in Keene, NH where I once bought glasses for $50. Does anyone know if this store still exists, and if yes, its name and/or location?
Or, any other place for cheap prescription glasses.

The winter solstice this year is on December 21st st 12:11 PM EST. Although some might think it came early, the date and time shown is when it officially starts. The only thing I like about winter besides Christmas is the night sky with all the bright stars and constellations that can be seen like Orion and Sirius the Dog Star, for example.
Clown Repa awoke one morning having dreamed a curious and wonderful dream that he felt surely must portend auspicious accomplishment in his practice but he could not understand the signs so he decided to briefly break retreat and go beseech Tokpa Dorje for his clairvoyant interpretation. These days Tokpa Dorje was very old and usually remained in his room which is where Clown Repa found him. As Clown Repa entered the room with his head bowed, Tokpa Dorje opened one eye and then closed it again.
“Dear son, why have you broken your retreat?” he asked.
I’m looking for suggestions and advice about finding a general practitioner, preferably someone who knows about lumps. Any suggestions and advice are welcome. Thank you.
My regular plow guy is out of commission, and I didn’t realize it until now (got my dates mixed up). Anyone know someone who is still plowing who might be able to do a small in-town driveway? It usually takes my regular guy 2-3 passes. I’m willing to pay any reasonable fee.

Orthopaedic surgeons Elizabeth McLarney, MD, Jon Thatcher, MD, and William Vranos, MD, announce they have joined the BMH Physician Group, changing their practice from Southern Vermont Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine to BMH Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine. Did anyone else get sick after eating carrot soup at the Cotton Mill Open House on Sunday? I’m sick as a dog, and trying to figure out if it’s food poisoning or a virus.

Hell. It’s been years since I submitted anything to iBrattleboro. I do look at it every once in awhile, mostly to see that things are okay in one of my favorite places to live. But, I haven’t been there since 2004. I sense everything is okay. And I do hope all my friends there are happy, or at least struggling towards a worthwhile goal.
When I lived in Brattleboro I always thought, “this would be a good place to stay.” Yeah, I know. It has its quirks. But I’ll never forget my first day there when a postal worker spent ten minutes helping a homeless person get their mail straightened out. And I thought, “if I’m ever poor, this is where I want to live.”
The world has lost a great man; a humble peacemaker; a man who knew that educating people was the way to a better, more just world. A sad, sad day for humanity. RIP Nelson Mandela.
