The Brattleboro Recreation & Parks Department would like to announce that the Nelson Withington Skating Facility at Living Memorial Park will be closing for the season on Sunday, March 6th, 2022, following the last program. Thank you all for another wonderful season!
WHAT IS NEW TODAY
• Governor Scott’s updated executive order earlier today includes the following:
“All businesses, not-for-profit entities, and municipal entities in the State shall reinstitute, to the maximum extent possible, … telecommuting or work from home procedures… [A]ll meetings should be held by telephone or electronically to avoid in person meetings whenever possible.”
In furtherance of this directive, Town of Brattleboro administrative offices will transition next week back to the almost entirely remote operations that we put in place during the Stay Home Stay Safe period last March and April. Starting Monday, November 16, some Town offices will be unoccupied. By Friday, November 20, most Town offices will be unoccupied most of the time. As was true last spring, some employees will come to the offices on some days just to perform tasks that cannot be performed from remote locations. We found last spring that we could adequately meet the public’s needs while performing the vast majority of our work online, via email, and by phone.
The Retreat Meadows outdoor ice skating across from Grafton Cheese factory outlet store on Rt 30 in Brattleboro: THIN ICE. 3 people fell through today. I saw 2 of them. I organized a rescue for one of them, but then he managed to get out before we had to actually do it, thankfully. 3 people fell through yesterday.
The West River is completely open water with no ice, all the way up to Townshend. This means the water is being warmed by the sun, the whole time it’s coming down the river. 20+ miles. The water is warmer than freezing temperature by the time it gets to Brattleboro, and melts the ice from underneath. This isn’t apparent by looking at the surface of the ice.
The Brattleboro Recreation & Parks Department would like to remind everyone that the Nelson Withington Skating Facility is open for the season and the Public Skating Schedule is as follows.
The Brattleboro Recreation & Parks Department is pleased to announce they will be offering a Mini Camp for children 5-11 year old (maximum 25 participants). The camp will be held on Wednesday – Friday, December 26th – 28th from 8:30am to 1:30 pm at the Gibson Aiken Center. (Children may stay for Open Gym at 1:30 which is also a supervised program).
