Brattleboro Town Manager Friday COVID-19 Update – What’s New

WHAT IS NEW TODAY

• Governor Scott’s updated executive order earlier today includes the following:

“All businesses, not-for-profit entities, and municipal entities in the State shall reinstitute, to the maximum extent possible, … telecommuting or work from home procedures… [A]ll meetings should be held by telephone or electronically to avoid in person meetings whenever possible.”

In furtherance of this directive, Town of Brattleboro administrative offices will transition next week back to the almost entirely remote operations that we put in place during the Stay Home Stay Safe period last March and April. Starting Monday, November 16, some Town offices will be unoccupied. By Friday, November 20, most Town offices will be unoccupied most of the time. As was true last spring, some employees will come to the offices on some days just to perform tasks that cannot be performed from remote locations. We found last spring that we could adequately meet the public’s needs while performing the vast majority of our work online, via email, and by phone.

For today, the status of the administrative offices remains unchanged in this update. As we transition back to mostly remote operations, those sections of this document will change. Please be sure to see next Friday’s update for the latest information on the status of each particular office.

For now, the Town’s field operations (police, fire, public works, utilities, parks maintenance, facilities maintenance, and parking enforcement) will continue in a manner that will not materially change for the public. We have maintained COVID-related safety precautions in our field operations throughout the summer of 2020. Those precautions will ramp back up in the days ahead and – more likely days from now than weeks from now – will soon resemble the modified operations that we maintained during the Stay Home Stay Safe period last spring. Next week’s update also will include detailed descriptions of any such changes in Town field operations.

• Brooks Memorial Library will suspend public visits within the building beginning Monday, November 16. Curbside and delivery service will still be available. Patrons may request materials by placing a hold on an item in their online account, emailing circulation@brookslibraryvt.org, or calling 802-254-5290 ext. 0. Reference service is offered at extension 1220 and assistance with electronic services can be found at extension 1204. Online resources, streaming video, downloadable ebooks, audiobooks, and magazines are accessible 24/7 via the library website at www.brooklsibraryvt.org.

• Effective November 14 at 10pm, the Brattleboro Recreation and Parks Department will be suspending all activities and recreational sports programs, including organized and informal recreational youth and adult league sports, practices, and games until further notice. Opening of the Nelson Withington Skating Facility also will be delayed until further notice. Brattleboro Rec+Parks is doing this to comply with the most recent State of Vermont restrictions on this type of activity anywhere in Vermont. If you have signed up and paid for a program, we can credit your account or send you a refund. Please advise of your preference by emailing recreation@brattleboro.org or leaving a message at 802-254-5808.

The Selectboard will meet on Tuesday, November 17. The meeting will be held on Zoom beginning with committee applicant interviews at 5:45 and followed by the Selectboard’s regular business meeting at 6:15.
