Construction Update

Brattleboro-Hinsdale

BF A004(152)

DATE: Friday, August 11, 2023

TRAFFIC IMPACT: Local traffic should continue to watch for concrete trucks entering and exiting the work zone over the next few weeks.

Vermont Route 142 will continue to remain closed from the intersection with Royal Road north to the access to 28 Vernon Street until the end of August. Separate signed detours for cars and trucks are active.

CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES: Removal of the debris from demolished house located within the project limits at 85 Vernon Street is almost complete. The existing foundation will be covered over and blended into the back slope.

All the storm water drainage structures and carrying pipe are in the ground. A few remaining underdrain runs between roadway basins to collect groundwater are still being installed. Video inspection of the closed drainage system will begin next week.

As the embankment elevation gets closer, the contractor will begin to bring in select fill materials to build the new road base starting in the south and moving north.

Layout and site prep for concrete signal base pads (pedestals) and fiber optic vaults will continue. The area behind the south MSE Wall has been left low so contractors can install the conduit for the fiber optic cables and the conduit that will power up the traffic signals for the new intersection.

The above ground items (signals, meter, and controller cabinet) will be installed after roadway base gravels and asphalt pavement are down.

The first 30 foot slab of the northern MSE wall moment slabs was placed, and that work will continue in the coming weeks.

Grading and compacting operation.

Placing drainage.

DETOUR INFORMATION: The truck detour route from VT 142 will be up Cotton Mill Hill Road, left onto South Main Street, continuing onto Fairground Road, and finally back Canal Street. Cars detouring from VT 142 should proceed up Cotton Mill Hill Rd. and make a right hand turn onto South Main St. A turnaround has been constructed south of Cotton Mill Hill Rd. on VT 142 to allow vehicles to safely navigate this corridor. A three-way stop configuration has been implemented at the Cotton Mill Hill Rd. and VT 142 intersection.

LOCATION:

The Hinsdale, NH to Brattleboro, VT bridge project will replace the existing twin truss bridges on New Hampshire Route 119 over the Connecticut River with a single, new structure approximately 1800′ long. On the Vermont side, the new structure will begin on Vermont Route 142 – about 1000′ south of the current intersection of VT 142 and NH 119. The new configuration will connect to NH 119 in New Hampshire east of the George’s Field Road/NH 119 intersection.

PROJECTED COMPLETION: Fall 2024.
