Construction Update

Brattleboro-Hinsdale

BF A004(152)

DATE: Thursday, December 28, 2023

TRAFFIC IMPACT:

No traffic impacts are scheduled for next week, however, the contractor and engineering teams are currently working on a Traffic Control Plan for the upcoming delivery of the structural steel to the Pier 1 site. The delivery route will be along New Hampshire and Vermont Route 119. During deliveries and with advance notice, locals can expect short duration closures of NH/VT 119. This impact will include the twin bridges and the intersection of Bridge Street to Vermont Route 142 and Canal Street. The delivery schedule and related details are being worked out and will be shared once formalized.

Pier 1 site at Barrows and Fisher.

CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES:

The contractor has begun to advance structural steel across Pier 2 to the temporary shoring towers. This work will continue into next week. De-watering at Pier 1 site has begun. Once a dry excavation can be maintained, the contractor will begin to install the 80 foot rebar cages in the 9 pier piles. This could begin as early as tomorrow and be completed in time for a concrete placement for the piles as early as next week. The footing formwork and re-bar installation should begin next week as well. This operation can be conducted in tandem with the pile work.

LOCATION:

The Hinsdale, NH to Brattleboro, VT bridge project will replace the existing twin truss bridges on New Hampshire Route 119 over the Connecticut River with a single, new structure approximately 1800′ long. On the Vermont side, the new structure will begin on Vermont Route 142 – about 1000′ south of the current intersection of VT 142 and NH 119. The new configuration will connect to NH 119 in New Hampshire east of the George’s Field Road/NH 119 intersection.

PROJECTED COMPLETION: Fall 2024.
