Construction Update

BF A004(152)

DATE: Thursday, April 18, 2024

One way alternating traffic patterns with flaggers will be implemented on Vermont Route 142 adjacent to the construction site on Monday and Tuesday next week. The northbound shoulder will be closed all week long and motorists are advised to watch for vehicles entering and exiting the construction site.

Delivery of steel to the abutment site on VT 142 is currently scheduled for Wednesday, April 24th, Monday, April 29th, and Wednesday, May 1st. The delivery route is planned to provide direct access from the south along VT 142 from Massachusetts Route 10. Flaggers and Uniformed Traffic Officers will be available to assist with the delivery, however it is not anticipated to require a lane closure. When the steel is ready to be moved from the truck to the bridge, a brief hold of all traffic on VT 142 will be required.

All girders have been received and placed at the Pier 1 site. Crews will continue work at this location with tensioning the bolted connections for all the steel, including cross-bracing and diaphragms. The temporary shoring tower and the crane will be disassembled next week as well.

The crane will be relocated to the Vermont Abutment and the northbound lane of VT 142 will be closed with one-way alternating traffic with flaggers around the work site to accommodate this operation. Additional preparations will occur at this site early next week to receive the steel girders set for delivery on Wednesday.

The Hinsdale, NH to Brattleboro, VT bridge project will replace the existing twin truss bridges on New Hampshire Route 119 over the Connecticut River with a single, new structure approximately 1800′ long. On the Vermont side, the new structure will begin on Vermont Route 142 – about 1000′ south of the current intersection of VT 142 and NH 119. The new configuration will connect to NH 119 in New Hampshire east of the George’s Field Road/NH 119 intersection.

Unanticipated delays at a couple of the piers have adjusted the project completion date from Fall 2024 to Summer 2025.
