Did you get your ballot yet? Two state ballot measures are up for a vote.
The first, Proposal 3, is all about collective bargaining. It would become a state constitutional right to organize or join a labor union for the purpose of collective bargaining.
The other, Proposal 4 is about making it clear that everyone has equal protections under the law. It prohibits the denial of rights to an individual based on their race, ethnicity, sex, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, or national origin.
A majority of state voters will need to approve them to get them into the state constitution.
To me, these seem pretty obvious and basic, and it is a bit surprising we’re just getting to this in 2026. Better late than never, I suppose.
I hope to see these approved by great margins. As a co-owner I can’t form a union at our business, but I want others to be able to throughout the state. As a white CIS male my rights have been privileged in society, at the expense of others, and I’m not really “free” unless everyone else is, too. Equal protections seems like the least we could do.
If all it takes is filling in the correct box on a ballot, it might be the easiest civil rights action you’ll ever take.
