Free Documentary Film Screening: Standing With Standing Rock, by Director Fidel Moreno
Oscar-nominated director Fidel Moreno will present a FREE screening of his documentary work-in-progress, Standing With Standing Rock, at Brooks Memorial Library on Friday, December 8th, at 6 pm.
Standing with Standing Rock was shot on location, and chronicles the story of the protesters at Standing Rock and their connection to the history of the American Indian Movement on their treaty-given lands of the American west. It has been culled from 18 hours of interviews with 33 people at Standing Rock, including youth, mothers, grandmothers, grandfathers, First Nation people and non-Indian supporters.
Holly Jolly Gingerbread Craft Time at Brooks Memorial Library
Don’t miss this year’s Holly Jolly Gingerbread Craft Time on Saturday, December 9 at Brooks Memorial Library. Come make edible houses out of graham crackers, icing and candy. Younger kids can make edible Christmas trees from ice cream cones, frosting and candy. This year we are offering two sessions: session one runs from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and session two runs from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. In order to ensure we have enough goodies for everyone, registration is strongly recommended – please contact the Children’s Room at 254-5290 x110. This event is free and donations of nonperishable food items for Project Feed the Thousands are appreciated. Children under 10 must have a responsible person with them. Conmen! Scoundrels! Rogues! How to Research Colorful Characters and Write Their Stories
On Wednesday, November 29 at 7 PM, Brooks Memorial Library will host a presentation about conmen who made their fortunes and furthered their careers by coming to Brattleboro and working their magic art. Rolf Parker, a free-lance writer and local historian, will tell their stories and share tips and techniques for doing your own research and story-telling. Come learn how your work can become part of the Peoples, Places and the History of Words Project! It is funded by an NEH “Creating Humanities Communities” grant.
