Making Flower Presses with Tom Bodett

Join writer, humorist and furniture maker Tom Bodett for a fun, collaborative workshop making flower presses.

Tom has designed a workshop format in which participants get to practice their woodworking tool skills by using them in a repetitive fashion. Together, the workshop participants will make twenty 5 1/2″ x 11″ flower presses. Each participant will take home 2 presses – just in time for spring and summer blooms.

Introduction to Woodworking: Build a Side Table

Through the creation of a side table, this class introduces students to the fundamentals of building furniture, the safe use of power tools such as the jointer, planer and table saw, a wide range of hand tools and techniques, and numerous design possibilities.  Instructor Doug Finkel has many years of experience teaching in schools and at craft centers.   Tuesdays, September 21 – November 9 (8 sessions); 6-9 pm.


Gail Grycel Brings Woodworking to Women at HatchSpace in Brattleboro

HatchSpace woodworking shop and school in Brattleboro, VT welcomes Gail Grycel to their teaching staff and board of directors.

Gail Grycel, owner of Twin Birch Woodworking in Westminster West, Vermont, has been a custom cabinetmaker since 1984. The balance of beauty and function exists in her cabinetry and furniture throughout New England.  For over twenty five years, and in three states, Gail has empowered women and girls through her class offerings in adult learning programs, woodworking courses in her studio, Rosie’s Girls summer camp sessions, mixed gender workshops, and one on one tutoring. She is dedicated to sharing her knowledge and experience to all who want to explore the love of making things out of wood.


Brattleboro Area Artists offer Open Studio Weekend May 26-27

BRATTLEBORO, Vt.: The Vermont Craft Council’s Spring Open Studio (Memorial Day) Weekend May 26-27 will include 12 artists in 10 studios and one gallery in Brattleboro, West Brattleboro and Marlboro. Of those artists, eight are members of Brattleboro-West Arts.

Participating studios will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, with many sites offering demonstrations as well as the opportunity to purchase art and talk to the professional artists who made it.
