In observance of Indigenous Peoples’ Day, all Town offices will be closed on Monday, October 8, 2018, with the exception of emergency services.
Parking is free at all metered spaces and in the pay-and-display lots on Sunday and Monday, October 7 and 8, 2018. All other violations will be enforced.
Heirloom Apple Day at Scott Farm Orchard in Dummerston, VT beckons apple lovers of all ages to celebrate its many varieties of heirloom apples at this free annual event on Sunday, October 7 from 10am-4pm. Come visit the 571-acre historic farm and orchard and experience heirloom apples fresh, baked and squeezed!
In addition to the popular apple talks and tastings, hard cider tastings by Whetstone Ciderworks of Marlboro, VT, and food vendors, new activities are in store for families. Enjoy fiddle music by Molly Durling of Putney from 10AM-2PM, an art station for kids, and dry stone wall tours, at 11AM, 1 & 3PM, led by The Stone Trust of the Master Features Park and the stonewalls that enhance the grounds.

The Brattleboro Selectboard will begin to repeal an Anti-Panhandling ordinance at their next regular meeting at the Municipal Center. They’ll take up the issue of Youth Voting, raise parking rates, and spend $260,000 on a new parking system. Tri-Park will get a master plan, a grant for disc golf will be approved, and will schedule the meetings for review of the FY20 budget.
You can, as always, bring up other items not on the agenda during public participation, or join the discussion of items that are on the agenda. It’s up to you.

Write Action is a non-profit org which promotes writing and writers in this part of the world. During the literary festival we host both the Spotlight Reading, and the Open Reading. This year, both readings will be in the CCV atrium in the Brooks House on Saturday.

Unique, rare, important and humorous historical treasures and archival collections reside within Windham County’s numerous historical societies, public libraries and museums. The Brattleboro Words Project’s Thursday, October 18, 2018 Roundtable Discussion will gather representatives who work with these treasures in recognition of National Archives Month in October. The discussion will take place at 6:00 pm at 118 Elliot, 118 Elliot Street, Brattleboro, Vermont 05301. The Roundtable event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be available.

Join Brooks Memorial Library on Wednesday, September 26 at 6 pm as the Vermont Commission on Women presents: The Hidden Side of Women’s Lives, a special event highlighting their statewide listening project, which is designed to help voice the concerns of women around the state. Brattleboro Commissioner Emilie Kornheiser and Saxtons River Commissioner Carol Buchdahl will be present, as well as Commission Director Cary Brown.
West Brattleboro — Each fall for the past several seasons, the gallery spaces at All Souls Church (ASC), aka West Village Meeting House, have been filled with blessings of Peace in the form of Stuart Copans’ papercuts. The current show is titled “Peace is a Process.”
This 9th annual exhibit features Copans’ creatively diverse cuttings of “Shalom,” the Hebrew word for Peace, and “Salaam,” its Arabic equivalent. In addition to these papercuts, viewers will be treated to Copans’ recent “concrete poems,” in which the poetry is intimately entangled with the object on which it is written, as well as the first few of his tea bag prints and limericks inspired by Edward Lear’s nonsense verse and drawings. Also showing are Dotty Seiter’s “Prayers in the Wind,” a collection of peace-prayer mobiles spinning gently in the central foyer windows.
Sixteen youth rock bands and solo music artists from around New England will take the stage at 118 Elliot in downtown Brattleboro, Vermont on Saturday, September 29 for BrattRock 2018, the third annual Brattleboro Youth Rock Festival. Performances will take place on two stages, one indoor and one outdoor, between 5:00 and 10:00 PM. Gates open to the public at 4:30 PM. In addition to six continuous hours of live music, the festival will feature food vendors, arts and crafts activities, and games. All are invited to attend this fun-for-all-ages community event.
