The Brattleboro Citizen Police Communications Committee (CPCC) will meet on Monday, May 22, 2017, at 5:30pm at Brooks Memorial Library in the Meeting Room.
We are inviting artists throughout the region to participate in our new logo contest. We are looking for artists to design a new logo for use by the Arts Council of Windham County & for our Gallery Walk! Our logo contest is being supported by a number of sponsors including the Brattleboro Chamber of Commerce, Latchis Theatre, Mondo Mediaworks, River Gallery School, T.J. Buckley’s, and Zephyr Designs.

On May 27th, the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, the West Brattleboro Association (WBA) will host another of its popular Chicken Barbecues. The event will be held once again in the front of the First Congregational Church on Western Avenue in West Brattleboro. The Barbecue will feature half chickens, baked beans, and coleslaw, available from 11:00 a.m. until sold out. This year the chicken is being supplied by the good folks at the Guilford Country Store.
The Brattleboro Water Department’s annual Water Quality Report for 2016 is now available on-line at www.brattleboro.org. Printed copies can be obtained at the Town of Brattleboro’s Municipal Center, in the offices of the Treasurer and the Town Clerk, at the Department of Public Works on Fairground Road, and the Brooks Memorial Library on Main Street.

Next Stage Arts Project and Twilight Music present acoustic swing and alt gypsy jazz quartet Caravan of Thieves, plus indie-folk-rock duo The Dupont Brothers, at Next Stage on Saturday, May 20 at 7:30 pm.
The Brattleboro Selectboard examined and approved the FY18 Utilities, Parking, and Solid Waste budgets on Tuesday night. There was ample discussion about a wide range of energy-related issues throughout, from wood boilers and pellet prices to energy improvements in town facilities.

The Brattleboro Conservation Commission is hosting a free workshop for people interested in learning about Japanese knotweed and participating in a town-wide mapping exercise on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at the West River Park from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM. Participants will learn about the plant biology, how to identify it and management options from Elizabeth Spinney, Invasive Plant Coordinator from VT Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation. A project database will also be introduced.
Guilford Center Stage announces open auditions for its October premiere of To Their Appointed End: the One-Act Plays of Jean Stewart McLean. There will be two sessions of auditions: Saturday, May 20, from 10 am to Noon, and Wednesday, May 24, from 6 to 8 pm, at Broad Brook Grange in Guilford. William Stearns directs the production.

Planning is underway for this year’s BrattRock–The Brattleboro Youth Rock Festival. Now in its second year, the festival’s mission is to provide a venue for musical youth from Brattleboro and the surrounding region to connect, learn, perform, inspire, and be inspired. Events and activities emphasize both educational and performance opportunities. Participation is free and open to youth under age 20 who are musicians, or who have an interest in music or the music industry.

I found out from one of our local morning radio shows that the camp out for homeless awareness at the Brattleboro Common is this Friday night to Saturday morning is this Friday, the 19th. The Ground Works is sponsoring it with the hope of drawing awareness of our homeless here in B-boro and surrounding communities. I plan on being there early to get my spot.
