Applicants Sought For Forestry Scholarship

The Windham Regional Woodlands Association (WRWA) is currently seeking scholarship applications from Windham County high school seniors or college students interested in forestry or an allied field (e.g., wildlife management). WRWA will award one $3,000 scholarship for the Fall 2017 and Spring 2018 semesters ($1,500 per semester) to a Windham County resident attending or about to enroll in a two- or four-year college program in Forest Management or a related major. The deadline for applications is May 15, 2017.


Talking the Talk and Walking the Walk?

I’m currently enrolled in a business class and we were having an online discussion about CEO’s and their ability to affect change as mouth pieces and captains of industry. One of my class mates posted some blog posts from the CEO of ULINE. ULINE is a company that provides business supplies (boxes, bubble wrap, equipment, tape, etc.) They are one of the leading business supplier in America and I can guarantee that there are businesses in town, including prominant ones (Co-op? I think they did a few years ago anyway). I will let you all check out the links and tell me what you think:


Next WBA Meeting, April 13th, with Cassandra Holloway of Prevention Coalition

The next monthly meeting of the West Brattleboro Association (WBA) will be held on Thursday, April 13th at 6:00 PM in the Hayes Court Community Room on Garfield Drive (just west of the West Brattleboro Post Office). The evening will include guest speaker Cassandra Holloway of the Brattleboro Area Prevention Coalition, talking about efforts to address and prevent substance abuse.


Town of Brattleboro Volunteer Energy Coordinator Position Available

The Brattleboro Selectboard recently announced that applications for the volunteer Town Energy Coordinator position are being accepted until 5:00pm on Monday, April 24, 2017. The position is defined in the Town Charter as follows: “Town Energy Coordinator: One 1-year term. The energy coordinator, created by the Vermont Legislature, reviews energy-related material received by the town and advises the town on energy conservation measures.”

The Energy Coordinator’s job description is as follows:

Drawing from the Visible World, an exhibition of works on paper, paintings and sculptures by JASON ALDENPAUL BOWEN and MYLES DANAHER will be on view from Friday, April 7, 2017-Thursday, April 27, 2017 at 118 Elliot Gallery. The opening reception is on Friday, April 7, 2017 at 6:00 PM. The gallery is located at 118 Elliot Street in Brattleboro, VT. Gallery hours: Thurs.-Sat, 2-6 PM.


Square Dance in Guilford Saturday

Guilford Center Stage opens its third season at Broad Brook Grange, not with a play, but with a square dance, on Saturday, April 8, at 7 pm.  The event is a benefit for the Grange’s resident theater company, and features Bob Livingston, caller, with the Falltown String Band.    Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for kids 12 and under,  and maximum for a family is $25.  


VFW Lunch Specials Apr. 3rd – Apr. 7th

The Brattleboro VFW at 40 Black Mountain Road is open to the public for lunch. Lunch is served from 11:30 – 1:30. Specials are only $6 a plate. Burgers, fries, onion rings, chicken wings, soups and sandwiches are also available.
