Trans Canada Hopes To Sell Dams on Connecticut River

Valley News is reporting that Trans Canada is planning on selling dams along the Connecticut River:

“West Lebanon — As part of its effort to finance a new Houston-based natural gas acquisition, Trans Canada Hydro Northeast is looking to sell its New England power generation business, including its hydroelectric dams on the Connecticut River.

At stake are not only some of the most lucrative assets on the river, but control of a critical natural resource in the Twin States. The Wilder, Bellows Falls and Vernon, Vt. dams are among the assets Trans Canada plans to sell.”

. Seems like they see a future in pipelines instead.

The Happy Birthday Animation Project

I just finished a winter assignment and thought I’d share a bit about “the making of” this new animation.

This project really started a few years ago, when I was given the FAX jr. animation stand used at the Animation Lab at Capital Children’s Museum. (I used to run the program at the museum, and the animation stand is an old friend.) I invested in a new camera and software to shoot single frame animation, and did some tests to make sure it was all working.

The stand really pulled me away from computer animation and back into physical media of drawings and objects. I decided to give myself an assignment of completing a fully drawn animated project. But what to do?

Brattleboro Bridge Replacement Project Update: Week of March 27

I-91

Northbound I-91 traffic has been relocated onto the southbound bridge. Traffic will remain reduced to one lane in each direction on I-91 until completion of the new bridge. The new bridge will be 104’ wide and is designed to carry all four lanes of traffic –two northbound and two southbound.

Route 30

The speed limit on Route 30 near the work zone has been reduced to 40 mph. Project-related truck activity on Route 30 will continue. Route 30 may be reduced to a single lane intermittently, with flaggers regulating traffic within the work zone.

Brattleboro Dog Licenses Due

Brattleboro dog and wolf-hybrid licenses are due on or before April 1. Vermont dogs and wolf-hybrids 6 months of age and older must be licensed on or before April 1. For dogs not previously licensed in Brattleboro, a first-time license must be obtained in person from the Town Clerk’s office. Licenses being renewed may be processed in the Town Clerk’s office, through the mail or online at www.brattleboro.org.

Vaccination against rabies is required by Vermont Statutes before licensing. A current vaccination means:

All dogs and wolf-hybrids over three months of age shall be vaccinated against rabies. The initial vaccination shall be valid for 12 months. Within 9 to 12 months of the initial vaccination, the animal must receive a booster vaccination.

Brattleboro Recounts and Revotes – The Results Will Stand

I asked Town Clerk Annette Cappy about some of the lingering questions regarding recount and revotes.

– Are we satisfied with the most recent recount numbers?

Annette Cappy, Brattleboro Town Clerk: I am. The second recount mirrored the election results exactly for both David Gartenstein and Avery Schwenk. Dick DeGray picked up 2 votes. Those results seem very reasonable. Using the tabulators doesn’t necessarily ensure 100% accuracy. There is always a slim margin of error whether using tabulators or counting by hand, which is why the process of recounts is included in the statutes.

Chemtrail Meeting at the Climate Change Cafe

Sometimes at meetings about something really important like chemtrails, I get kinda wound up when I realize the attendees know almost zilch about the subject. You’d think that people would look up at the sky now and then wouldn’t you?   Thanks to Post Oil for getting the conversation started.

James Hansen just published a climate study that says we’re in for a lashing from climate change much worse than scientists have previously predicted.  It makes me restless listening to people thinking that writing to their Congresscritters or holding a petition is going to yield results. How many petitions are going on? Do we see anything getting better come out of them? Maybe the occasional bone is thrown in order to shut us up or give some evidence that the system is working.
