Austin Rice talks about “leaning into the weirdness” of the new film he co-produced : Lil’ Balzac 2, which premieres at the Latchis Theater on August 5. He also tells us about growing up in Brattleboro, studying film, becoming a Town Rep, producing for BCTV, and his new family.
Brattleboro DPW – Overgrown Vegetation
Please be advised. Property owners are responsible for trimming and maintaining vegetation on their property if it may interfere with the public right of way. Overgrown vegetation creates an unsafe situation for pedestrians who may have to walk in the roadway to get by. It also impacts the sight distance for vehicular traffic. Please inspect and trim your vegetation accordingly. The town ordinance reads as follows:
Brattleboro Selectboard Agenda and Notes – August 2, 2022
It will certainly be a fairly wild meeting of the Brattleboro Selectboard as August kicks off. They’ll name a new street “Fairly Wild Way.”
The board will continue their discussion of a resolution protecting a person’s right to access to abortion (and whether or not to throw any money at it,) they’ll adjust the code of ordinances regarding wastewater allocations and fees, authorize and RFP for a town-wide re-appraisal, and apply for a grant on behalf of Commonwealth Dairy. They’ll also hear an Efficiency Vermont presentation on community energy savings. YOu can bring up other items not on the agenda during public participation.

Vote Isaac Evans-Frantz for U. S. Senate!
I strongly believe that we need the leadership of Isaac Evans-Frantz to fill our open US Senate seat. I encourage my fellow Vermonters to vote for him by the August 9th election. For over 20 years, he has sought and gained solutions to problems at home and around the world.
He’s built relationships and coalitions which benefit everyday Vermonters and everyday worldwide citizens. From improved Vermont dental care to $650 billion worth of global COVID relief, Isaac’s role was vital. His leadership led to bipartisan legislation aimed at ending our unconstitutional war on Yemen, the poorest country in the Middle East. It also provided $2.7 billion in aid to Ukraine, all at no cost to the US. This was the largest release of international funds in history.

Mid-Term Elections May Determine Our Future
Primary elections are taking place throughout the country in the lead-up to the November mid-term elections. Predicting the outcome of elections is one of the more useless and inaccurate activities that pundits and the media engage in. Yet, they all continue and then offer hindsight analysis after the ballots are counted.
November’s election has the potential to feed the beast of change this country is on toward right wing control of the courts, the environment and women’s bodies. The recent decisions by the Supreme Court may portend the world to come if the House and Senate majorities change to Republican.
HatchSpace Seeks Volunteers for a Community Woodworking Project
HatchSpace, Brattleboro’s community woodworking facility, is looking for assistance with a special service project to benefit the Putney Central School. Volunteers will work alongside skilled woodworkers to build classroom worktables. Light carpentry skills appreciated but not necessary. We’re aiming for an August 1st start date, with day and evening work sessions to last for about two weeks. This will be a fun and instructive experience! Vernon Street Closure
Green Mountain Power will be working on Vernon Street around the intersection of Vernon Street and Bridge Street on Monday, July 25, 2022 from 5:00am to 3:00pm. During that time Vernon Street will be closed from Main Street to Royal Road. During the remainder of the week there may be alternate traffic.
Please seek alternate routes if possible.
