What I Don’t Understand About the Impeachment Indictment

The single impeachment allegation is inciting insurrection. Trump’s case is that, several times, he asked his followers to be peaceful.

This allows his supporters to argue that responsibility for the insurrection is solely that of the rioters, not Trump. This ends up in a quarrel about the true intent and impact of Trump’s conduct.

What I do not understand, is why there was not a second allegation of criminal breach of duty for watching the invasion of the Capitol Building on TV for a couple of hours, while failing to activate the National Guard, or take any measure to protect the Capitol and protect Congress.

The event is being presented by iBrattleboro.com and BCTV and will be live streamed to Comcast channel 1085 and BCTV’s Facebook page. 

It’s a virtual forum this year, held via Zoom.

Brattleboro Taxes & Utilities Due

The third installment of the 2020 Brattleboro Real Estate and Personal Property Taxes will be due on February 16, 2021.  Payments made after February 16, 2021 will have an additional 1% interest added to the unpaid balance.

The Town of Brattleboro utility bills are also due on February 16, 2021. Payments made after February 16, 2021 will have an additional 1% interest, as well as an 8% penalty, added to the unpaid balance.

Brattleboro Absentee Ballots Available

Absentee ballots for the Brattleboro Annual Town Meeting and Windham Southeast School District vote to be held March 2, are now available. Due to the pandemic, the doors to the Municipal Center are locked to the public and there will be NO IN-PERSON EARLY VOTING this year.  Absentee ballots for these two elections must be requested. Anyone wishing to vote absentee may apply for an absentee ballot until 5:00 p.m. on Monday, March 1, although we recommend doing so as soon as possible for mail time purposes.

Absentee ballots may be mailed to the voter by the Clerk’s office, picked up by the voter, or if a voter is in need can be delivered outside of the voter’s residence by two Justices of the Peace.  All voted ballots must be received by the Clerk before the polls close on election day in order to be counted.  For more information or to request an absentee ballot call 251-8157.

Brattleboro Presidents’ Day Closures

 In observance of Presidents’ Day, all Brattleboro Town offices will be closed on Monday, February 15, 2021, with the exception of emergency services. 

Parking is free at all metered spaces and in the pay-and-display lots on Sunday and Monday, February 14 and February 15. All other violations will be enforced.

Watching this video is the first time during my 75 years (during most of which I have thought of myself as an informed person) that I have heard of the Doctrine of Discovery of 1452, even though it provided the ideological justification for colonialism and the enslavement of indigenous people.

Because this Doctrine was issued as a Papal Bull, it became the guiding principal for all European countries.

Grace Cottage is Now Administering Vaccines

TOWNSHEND — Grace Cottage Family Health & Hospital is now a Covid-19 vaccination site. Vermonters age 75+ can sign up to get their first dose at Grace Cottage by going to the Vermont Department of Health Covid-19 online Event Portal or by calling 855-722-7878.

So far, the following dates have been announced for vaccines at Grace Cottage: Wednesday, Feb. 10; Thursday, Feb. 11; Wednesday, Feb. 17; and Wednesday, Feb. 21. All appointments must be made through the Vermont Department of Health’s registration system.

Mass Vaccination In A Broken Public Health System

This country has underfunded public health for decades. We are seeing the results of that malpractice as we try to test and vaccinate a significant number of our population during the COVID 19 pandemic.

It would be simplistic to blame the departed presidential criminal and his team for their lack of action during the pandemic. Yet, they do deserve a good share of blame for not creating a national plan to deal with COVID.

In order to understand why the Biden administration will not find a way to test and vaccinate a critical mass of Americans within a short time frame it is important to know that this country barely has a functioning public health system.

Customers chose to round up their purchases to the next dollar and contributed $5072.81 dollars in total to SUSU commUNITY Farm. Brattleboro Downtown Snow Removal

The Town of Brattleboro would like to remind everyone that the snow emergency ban is in effect.   

Snow and ice will be removed from the streets in the downtown area this evening.   

Parked vehicles in the downtown district must be removed by 11:00pm or they will be towed at the owner’s expense.

Selectboard Meeting Notes – Stroud Drops Out; Parking, Liquor, + Elections

The Brattleboro Selectboard held a meeting to set dates for three Representative Town Meeting informational sessions. They approved liquor licenses, made appointments, certified highway mileage, and began design work on a shiny new parking lot.

Candidate for Selectboard Gary Stroud dropped out of the race, citing health issues that would prevent him from doing all that was necessary to be on the board.
