Next Stage Arts Project and Twilight Music present veteran folk/rock icon Jonathan Edwards plus singer/songwriter Lisa McCormick and newgrass/contemporary folk trio The Stockwell Brothers at Next Stage on Sunday, November 16 at 7:30 pm. Bridge Street at the Route 119 Bridge to New Hampshire will have temporary road closures on Thursday, November 13, 2015, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.. The road will be closed at times to expedite replacement of the damaged guardrail at the entrance to the bridge. During these closures, there will be no through vehicle traffic but pedestrians will still be able to access the sidewalk across the bridge. The Brattleboro Police Department will be on site during this project to ensure traffic flow; emergency vehicles will have access to the road to Hinsdale.

WASHINGTON, Nov. 11 – Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) announced today that a Senate panel he chairs will hold a hearing next week to explore why the costs of certain generic drugs are skyrocketing. Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), who has worked with Sanders on this issue, will take part in the Nov. 20 hearing of the Senate Subcommittee on Primary Health and Aging.
Price hikes for generic drugs also reportedly have come under scrutiny by the U.S. Department of Justice. Subpoenas recently were issued to two generic drug makers seeking information about their interactions with competitors, The Wall Street Journal disclosed on Monday.

The Vermont Jazz Center welcomes two treasured alumni to perform at the Vermont Jazz Center on November 15th at 8:00 PM as part of their Emerging Artist Series. After years of study and performance, vocalists Sarah Elizabeth Charles and Integriti Reeves have risen from dedicated students to seasoned professionals and in doing so have cultivated respect from peers and professionals throughout the national jazz scene.
When Integriti and Sarah Elizabeth began their studies with Sheila Jordan and Jay Clayton at the VJC’s summer jazz workshop about 10 years ago, the seeds of their commitment, self-discipline, diligent effort and abundant talent were already bearing fruit. Both have recently completed their academic training and are currently “in the trenches,” teaching, recording and confidently performing at some of jazz’s most prestigious venues. Their hard work has paid off and “now is the time” for them to develop recognition amongst a wider public.

BURLINGTON, Vt., Nov. 10 – Welcoming President Barack Obama’s support for net neutrality, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) today urged the Federal Communications Commission to protect free and open access to the Internet.
In a l, Sanders said the commission should act decisively. “As you know, President Barack Obama has made a strong statement on net neutrality and the importance of preserving a free and open Internet. I strongly agree with him and so do the American people,” Sanders wrote to Wheeler.
I found a little lady bug and didn’t have the heart to put it out in the cold, what with the weather going below freezing at night. So, I looked up ladybugs on the internet and found you can keep one as a pet. I took in a green pumpkin that had never ripened and followed instructions to care for it. Just a paper towel around the stem, a few drops of water a day on the paper towel so the lady bug can suck the water out, and a drop of honey a day for food. I’ve had my pet lady bug for about 10 days now, she did leave for 2 days, then returned to her green pumpkin.
Company of Muses has announced tickets for the 2014 Brattleboro School of Dance production of The Nutcracker will go on sale Monday, November 17.
Show times for this year’s run of the holiday classic are 7:00pm on Friday and Saturday, December 19-20, and then matinees at 1:00pm and 5:00pm on Sunday, December 21. All performances will take place at the New England Youth Theatre, located at 100 Flat Street in Brattleboro.

LIBRARY RAFFLE: HAND CRAFTED COLONIAL BOOKCASE
The Friends of Brooks Memorial Library have announced that they will hold a raffle for a locally designed and built Colonial design pine bookcase. Tickets for the raffle will be available at the Brooks Memorial Library from Monday, November 10 through Saturday, December 13.
Donated to the Friends by a local craftsman, Paul Rodrigue, this bookcase is handmade of pine cut from nearby Alstead, New Hampshire. The bookcase is 44 inches tall and 24 inches wide. The traditional dovetail joints are all hand cut.
