In the vein of a recent post to iBratt, does anyone have information on how to dispell a curse or a hex, from a Voodoo doll or otherwise? Some may see this as a frivolous request but it is not. Confirmation that there is, indeed, a curse applied would hopefully be part of the protocol.
Broad Brook Grange will present its 20th annual Father’s Day Brunch on Sunday, June 19, from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Grange hall in Guilford Center. The proceeds from the event support maintenance of the historic building.
The all-you-can-eat brunch features eggs and omelettes, any style, made to order. Also on the menu are pancakes, French toast, sausage, bacon and home fries, with Guilford maple syrup. Other treats include home-baked coffee cakes and other baked goods, fresh fruit salad, and bread for toasting. A selection of juices will be available, along with coffee, teas and milk.
Green Mountain Crossroads is organizing a vigil this (Monday) evening at 7PM at The Root Social Justice Center for LGBTQ-identified people who want to come together to grieve, share, support each other, and be together.
We will have peer listeners on hand for folks needing/wanting one-on-one support. We will also have some light food and candles.

This optical illusion speaks volumes to me. As it turned out, “the arrow” points to a skatepark that I came upon in my travels. It was so well done, so evolved in terms of progression and accessibility and fun, I was again reminded of what a tremendous resource it is for an area. To see the joy offered to kids of every age, even for the youngest, was inspiring.
Upon returning to Brattleboro, it was with some dismay that I saw we did not become a finalist for one of the Artplace grants, the windfall that was hoped to be the penny drop from heaven that would end our drought, and prime the pump.

The Community Opioid Response is a collaboration between various community partners including VT Dept. of Health, Brattleboro Area Prevention Coalition, Turning Point Recovery Center, Nar-anon Family Groups, Brattleboro Retreat and concerned community members.

Brattleboro Memorial Hospital will be holding a job fair targeted at filling positions within their Environmental Services (Housekeeping) department. The event will take place Tuesday, June 14th from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM in the hospital’s Human Resources Department on the 3rd floor of the Dunham Building.
“Our housekeepers are critical members of the BMH team,” says Bill Norwood, BMH’s Director of Human Resources. “They are responsible for enhancing the safety of our patients and staff by maintaining an impeccably clean environment, and their work is at the heart of our infection control protocols.” Norwood hopes that the event will draw the interest of those seeking jobs at one of the region’s top employers, and give them an opportunity to meet some of the hospital’s leadership team.

Very sad weekend… We have lost the Greatest Of All-Time: Mohamed Ali.
Such a brave brave man in and out of the ring. He conquered Liston (twice), Frazier (two out of three), and Foreman. And we never even saw him fight in his prime… In those years he was barred from boxing and had his passport taken away for his refusal to fight in the unjust Vietnam War (a stance he took out of principle alone; if he did allow himself to be drafted, he would have had a cake walk of PR appearances and exhibition matches). It short he was a true Peoples’ Champ; one who stood up for the underdog, the working man, against imperialism, and for Black Liberation.

I’m hung up on the unsilverlined silverback Harambe tragedy. After watching the video a few times, it continues to run in my mind. I see the great and beautiful primate clearly making a universal gesture of nurturance with its delicate paw. His aura calm. Body language, unaggressive. Maybe I’m projecting, but I saw awareness and protectiveness on display in that enclosure. And a look, unforgettable, seems to be saying “Yo people, y’all know you dropped bambino in here, down here…Reading me?”
The subsequent hit on the ape, and ensuing flurry of responses, including laying of blame compels me less. But that’s sure interesting too. [As a sidebar to this I keep thinking that if we can no longer recognize fundamental signs, mudras for benign intent- from creatures of our own world- what chance do we have of getting the right message when the aliens come visit?]

The Root is working to gain a deeper understanding of what this means so that we can be in solidarity with indigenous liberation. We live, work, and organize on colonized land. The history of the Native people in the Connecticut River Valley has been intentionally and violently replaced. What we have learned about the place where we live is from a colonizer perspective. To decolonize our minds and our spaces it is crucial to un-learn the history of this river valley, so that we can better understand the Indigenous narrative.

I was just at Avenue Grocery on Western Ave and learned that there is a missing beagle somewhere in Brattleboro.
The dog was in Harmony Lot with its owner, got spooked and ran away. I was told that it is a shelter dog, named Gypsy, and could be anywhere from downtown to I-91.
If you see a confused, scared beagle out there, get in touch with Avenue Grovery and they can put you in touch with the owner.

In the light of our electoral horror-show, one question screams out to me loudest, will we ‘dodge the bullet’? My concern comes mainly by way of the candidate who incites hate, separation, anti-intellectualism, a repudiation of altruism..in short… standing for everything anathema to humanist values. His constituents seems to revel in exercising base expression of privilege, xenophobia and opportunism. His ultimate opponent in the race, whomever that comes to be, while clearly more sympathetic to so-called liberal values, also chills me, but seems less potentially catastrophic due to perpetuating the familiar.
