Climate Emergency Declaration Begins at $50M School Board Meeting

After admonishing the school directors at the Windham South East School Union meeting Tuesday night June 25 for failing to educate students about climate change Kurt Daims of Brattleboro Common Sense (BCS) proposed an advisory resolution to include Climate Crisis in every regular meeting of the school directors. One person spoke against the resolution, and after an enthusiastic debate the resolution was approved.

CBD (Cannabidiol) Will Be Discussed at Inclusion Center

Brattleboro, June 2,019 – Scott Sparks, from Vermont Hempicurean, Brattleboro, will be providing an introduction to CBD oils derived from hemp on Friday, June 21, at 11:00 a.m. at Inclusion Center.

The discussion will include a brief history of hemp. Participants will learn how CBD from Vermont farms can provide potential relief from pain, anxiety and sleep disorders. There will be an opportunity to sample some products and learn the ways CBD can be consumed and applied. Those in attendance will receive a coupon for 10% off their first purchase.

Brunch in Guilford for Father’s Day — This Sunday

Broad Brook Grange will present its 22nd annual Father’s Day Brunch on Sunday, June 16, from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Broad Brook Community Center in Guilford.
The all-you-can-eat brunch features eggs and omelettes, many of the eggs from Guilford, any style, made to order. n(Local Duck eggs are also available!) Also on the menu are pancakes, French toast, sausage, bacon and home fries, with Guilford maple syrup. Other treats include home-baked coffee cakes and other baked goods, fresh fruit salad, and bread for toasting. A selection of juices will be available, along with coffee, teas and milk.

Amy’s has always offered at least one coffee selection which was organic and fair trade…until recently. Am I the only one annoyed at the change?

The other day I bought a large coffee and one of those personal-size pies at a cost of seven dollars and change. After putting my change into the tip jar I could not help thinking: “Wow, for the same $8 (well, maybe 9) I could have had lunch at the Panda with soup, brown rice, and a nice entrée.

Living Memorial Park Pool Opens June 22

The Brattleboro Recreation and Parks Department is pleased to announce that the Living Memorial Park Pool will be opening for the season on Saturday, June 22nd, 2019 at 1:00 p.m.

In addition to the daily pool fee, there will also be season pool passes available for purchase. Swim Lessons will be Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-Noon, General Swim will be Sunday-Saturday 1:00 p.m.- 4 p.m.,

Ongoing Postnatal Support Circle and Gentle Yoga Class! *New*

Sacred Postpartum is about honoring the postpartum period.  In this ongoing and special class, you will be invited to share your stories, truths, and questions as well as connect with other new mothers.  You will also have the opportunity to stretch, strengthen, and reconnect with your body through gentle yoga.

Each Sacred Postpartum class will begin with a sharing circle where we’ll explore a different postpartum topic each week and then we will move through a yoga practice that will be specific to the healing postpartum body.


500+ VT Union Members & Allies Picket Scott Walker

Burlington, Vermont, 5/30/19 –Today 500+ Union members and allies picketed the GOP fundraiser in Burlington which featured extremist Union-buster Scott Walker and Vermont Republican Governor Phil Scott. The picket was organized by AFSCME-VT, IBEW Local 300, The Vermont Buildings Trades, and dozens of other Unions & pro-Labor community/political organizations.  Labor appreciates the support received by U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders who reached out to supporters yesterday to express his backing of the picket and to encourage Vermonters to demonstrate alongside us.

The demonstration was electric! Speakers included AFSCME Local 1343 President Damion Gilbert, myself [VT AFL-CIO District Vice President/AFSCME Local 2413 member David Van Deusen], IBEW Organizer Danielle Bombardier, President of APWU-Vermont President Omar Fernandez, and many other Labor and community leaders (*see below for full list of speakers).

Rescheduled Japanese Knotweed Work Session to be held at West River Park on Thursday, June 6

The Conservation Commission will conduct a work session in the West River Park on Thursday, June 6 at 4:30 PM. The purpose of this work session is to manually control Japanese Knotweed along the West River in the West River Park. Conservation Commission members will be cutting Japanese Knotweed.

Participants should wear sturdy shoes and bring gloves and loppers or another garden cutting tool. Extra loppers will be available. Interested participants may arrive at any time and can find Commission members along the riverbank with the West River. The path to the riverbank is near the kiosk at the end of the parking lot.
