Work on the Main Street water line replacement project will be starting Tuesday April 9thwith pavement marking and cutting. Parking will be prohibited on the east side of Main Street between 133 and 167 Main Street starting at 6:00 a.m. during this pavement cutting period. Traffic will be restricted in the area.
The Town of Brattleboro has contracted with Zaluzny Excavation from Vernon, Vermont to replace a portion of the water main on the easterly side of Main Street between Elliot and High Street. Construction will occur on the easterly side of Main Street starting at 133 Main Street and proceeding north to High Street.
Construction preparations will be starting Monday, April 8, 2019. Construction is expected to be completed no later than May 17, 2019.
The first meeting of the new configuration of the Brattleboro Selectboard went off without difficulty. New members Daniel Quipp and Elizabeth McCloughlin were initiated with a fill agenda including actions as Liquor Commissioners as well as Water & Sewer Commissioners.
The board considered issues raised at Representative Town Meeting, approved grants for a slight expansion to Red Clover Commons, helped renegotiate some loans due to the Town, and more.
Good afternoon! Here are the remarks I will be distributing and reviewing this evening at the Selectboard Meeting:
Welcome to the first meeting of the new Selectboard season! I am excited to serve as your Chair, and am looking forward to a busy year ahead of us.
As some of you may be new to attending Selectboard Meetings, I thought I would help to give a lay of the meeting, including some non-negotiable boundaries within which these meetings will operate:
NEWFANE, VT – After almost 30 years in police work, I have decided to retire from law enforcement and as Sheriff of Windham County, effective June 30, 2019. This follows much discussion with family, colleagues, and close friends. My wife, as some of you know, has been working in North Carolina for some time now, and we are both looking forward to again sharing the same roof. That being said, this has been a tough decision for me. Being Sheriff has been the single most rewarding of all my various law enforcement jobs.
Welcome to a new way to explore Brattleboro and Downtown Brattleboro.
The office of tourism revenue is introducing new one day and annual passes in an effort to encourage people to come to Brattleboro.
The One Day Fun Pass, $46.00 (plus tax) admits one, age 10+, to Brattleboro and Downtown Brattleboro for a full day.
At 10 am on Saturday, April 6th, join your three Brattleboro State Representatives for a casual conversation about what’s been happening in Montpelier and beyond. Mollie S. Burke, Tristan Toleno, and Emily Kornheiser offer you the opportunity to speak with them directly about issues that concern you.

The newly-formed Starr-led Selectboard will have their first regular meeting Tuesday evening. They’ll hold it right after their first Executive Session, which comes right after their first committee candidate interviews.
It won’t all be start-up stuff, though they will review Rules of Conduct and choose committees to attend. Red Clover Commons 2 will be applying for a grant, Representative Town Meeting items will be reviewed, historical markers, loans and knotweed will be discussed, and a new conflict of interest policy will be considered for adoption. You can, as always, bring up other items during public participation.
The Brattleboro Energy Committee will meet on Monday, April 1, 2019, at 5:00pm in the Hanna Cosman Meeting Room at the Municipal Center.
The Brattleboro Tree Advisory Committee will meet on Thursday, April 4, 2019, at 6:30pm in the Community Meeting Room at the Brattleboro Food Co-Op, located at 2 Main Street.
The Brattleboro ADA Advisory Committee will meet on Friday, April 5, 2019, at 9:00am in the Hanna Cosman Meeting Room at the Municipal Center
As part of National Vietnam War Veterans Day. Brattleboro VA Community Outreach Clinic will honor Vietnam War Veterans with refreshments on March 29 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
All Vietnam War veterans are warmly invited to attend.
The Brattleboro Selectboard will hold a special organizational meeting on Monday, March 25, 2019, at 5:30pm in the Selectboard Meeting Room at the Municipal Center.
The Brattleboro Citizen Police Communications Committee (CPCC) will meet on Monday, March 25, 2019, at 5:30pm in the Brooks Memorial Library Meeting Room.
On 3/20/19 at around 6:30PM the Brattleboro Police Department responded to a report of a shooting at the Representative Town Meeting school information night at Green Street School. Multiple BPD officers responded and were assisted by the Vermont State Police and Windham Sheriff’s office. Approximately ten officers were involved in the response to this incident.

The Brattleboro Selectboard gathered for their last regular meeting under the current configuration of board members – Chair Kate O’Connor and Shanta Lee Gander are about to return to civilian life.
The Country Club was reprimanded for a liquor infraction, causing the board to offer them time to do some free promotion. (Note to other liquor license holders – minor infractions will lead to publicity!) Bids were accepted, the Energy Committee was reduced in size, and representative town meeting motions were assigned.
The Brattleboro Arts Committee will meet on Wednesday, March 20, 2019, at 1:00pm in the Hanna Cosman Meeting Room at the Municipal Center.
The Brattleboro Traffic Safety Committee will meet on Thursday, March 21, 2019, at 8:00am in the Selectboard Meeting Room at the Municipal Center.
The Brattleboro Trustees of Public Funds will meet on Friday, March 22, 2l019, at 5:00pm in the Hanna Cosman Meeting Room at the Municipal Center.
The Brattleboro Selectboard will wrap up its year with lease agreements and tire removal. They will also hear from the Brattleboro Country Club regarding a recent liquor violation before giving them a new liquor license.
The Energy Committee might be reduced in size, Experienced Goods will extend their lease at the parking garage, motions will be assigned, and you might be appointed to a committee. You can always bring up other matters during public participation.
The Brattleboro Fire Department is reminding everyone of this simple life-saving habit of changing the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms when adjusting your clocks for daylight saving time.
According to fire officials, every year there are roughly 2,200 deaths and 11,000 ER injuries due to the more than 350,000 house fires throughout the nation.
