I believe I lost my son’s backpack along Route 30 on Sunday on our way from Brattleboro to Townshend. He is 6 years old and it has some things which are dear to him inside, his well loved stuffed animal and a string of beads from mom. I am including a picture of the type of backpack that it is although his name is not Kyle. If you find it please call me, I will be in your debt.
The 2016 Real Estate and Personal Property Tax Bills were mailed on August 8, 2016. The first quarter payment will be due on September 15th, 2016 by 5:00 PM. Payments made after September 15th, 2016 will have an additional 1% interest added to the unpaid balance.

If you’re interested in learning to decode Hebrew so you will be able to read and follow Hebrew in a prayerbook, Faith Schuster will teach a Learn to Read Hebrew class in the fall on Sunday afternoons at 4:00, beginning on September 18th at Brattleboro Area Jewish Community in West Brattleboro. There is no fee but you’ll need a textbook ($10-15). We need at least five people for the course, which will run for eight to ten weeks.
Burt Tepfer wil lead a discussion of the issues and ideas raised by the play he is directing, “Bad Jews”, on Sunday August 14 at 3:30 pm at Brattleboro Area Jewish Community – 151 Greenleaf Street in West Brattleboro. Since it is Tisha B’Av, the program will include a brief explanation of the holiday from Cantor Kate Judd, with a few words about why talking about what it means to be a “good” or “bad” Jew might be particularly appropriate on that day. Snacks will be supplied for those who are not fasting for the holiday.

We are seeking a temporary (two months or more) foster home for our dog Lexi and offering a stipend of $180 per month toward expenses. Lexi is a sweet, super smart, affectionate, and playful mix of Springer Spaniel, beagle, and harehound. She loves attention, to go on hikes, to play fetch with toys, and to cuddle at night. She’s a terrific companion dog who benefits from lots of love and attention. Ideally, she would love to have a fenced in yard as well.
I have a bunch of optical toys around, but I haven’t made any since I was a kid.
There are many ways to make a kaleidoscope. Some are quite fancy, made of metal or wood, with fine pieces of colored glass and precise mirrors. Others are quite simple, letting the user turn anything they look at into interesting patterns.

On Thursday, September 8 at 7PM there will be a presentation about Brattleboro’s Stephen Daye Press to be held in the Brattleboro History Center at 196 Main Street in Brattleboro. This event is open to the public and admission is free.
Founded in 1932 by John S. and Marion R. Hooper, the Stephen Daye Press (SDP) published books about New England. It is now considered the first in the field of regional publishers in the United States. Children of the SDP founders, John, Mary Ann and Steve Hooper, all formerly of Brattleboro will give the presentation about the Stephen Daye Press. In addition, there will be a display of SDP books, photos, tools of the trade, original promotional materials and other items.

The Southeastern Vermont Watershed Alliance (SeVWA) had the fourth day of our monitoring program for the summer of 2016 on Wednesday, August 3rd. Volunteers collected samples from 30 sites on eight rivers and streams and will continue to do so every other week through the end of August. This year, we have sites on the West River, Rock River, North Branch Ball Mountain Brook, Williams River (including South Branch and Middle Branch), Saxtons River, Sacketts Brook, and Whetstone Brook.
Ouch. The Brattleboro Selectboard settled a lawsuit with Kingsbury Construction Co. at their meeting on Thursday night. Brattleboro won’t owe the $1.5 million, but the settlement payouts will add over $800,000 to the cost of work done at Black Mountain Road for the gravity fed sewer line to be complete.

I-91
Northbound I-91 traffic has been relocated onto the southbound bridge. Traffic will remain reduced to one lane in each direction on I-91 until completion of the new bridge. The new bridge will be 104’ wide and is designed to carry all four lanes of traffic –two northbound and two southbound.
To reduce congestion on I-91, both Exit 3 on ramps will be closed on Sunday, August 7th, from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm. I-91 will remain open.
