You may recognize Wyatt from the Daily Show, but did you know he was a writer for King of the Hill, the Mike Judge look at Texas? I didn’t.
It makes a bit of sense. He was born in NYC in 1976, but was moved to Texas as a kid. He’s now a Brooklyn resident.

Main Street Sidewalk Update #6
Good morning! We have seen some big changes since our last update! On Thursday a subcontractor came in and installed all the new curb from Walnut Street to High Street. Green Mountain Power came in on Wednesday and installed two of our new street lights at the Walnut Street intersection and they look GREAT! To date, the contractor has completed all the sidewalk removal and electrical conduit installation from Walnut Street to High Street. The driveway crossings and many of the pedestrian ADA ramps have been installed.
Next week (there will be no work on Monday for Labor Day) the sidewalk subcontractor will be onsite to get all the new sidewalks installed from Walnut Street to High Street!
I-91 Brattleboro Bridge Replacement Project Update: Week of September 6
To reduce congestion on I-91, both Exit 3 on ramps will be closed on Labor Day, Monday, September 7 from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm. I-91 will remain open.

The blasting on the north side of the new bridge has been completed.
Northbound I-91 traffic has been relocated onto the southbound bridge. Traffic will remain reduced to one lane in each direction on I-91 until completion of the new bridge.
Matt Dunne Hosting Community Meeting in Brattleboro
Matt Dunne has announced that he will seek the Democratic nomination for Governor in 2016.
As Matt begins his bid for governor, he is eager to meet with Vermonters and listen to their concerns about the challenges facing Vermont, and their ideas for the future.
Matt’s campaign is scheduled meetings in every county of our state including two in Windham County — one in Bellows Falls and the other in Brattleboro.
Brattleboro Labor Day Closings
In observance of Labor Day, all Town offices will be closed on Monday, September 7, 2015, with the exception of emergency services.
Parking is free at all metered spaces and in the pay-and-display lots on Sunday, September 6, and Monday, September 7. All other violations will be enforced.
Selectboard Meeting Notes: A Million Dollar Gamble, a Resource Center, and an Imposing Tower
Major industrial development near Exit 1 got a hearty endorsement from the Brattleboro Selectboard on Tuesday evening. Over $1 million in loans and grants have been approved to be spent on an effort to convince a local employer to keep good paying jobs in Brattleboro. There are good odds that G. S. Precision will stay, but plans are not yet final.
A proposed Putney Road telecommunications tower was found to be objectionable enough to trigger a letter of concern to the Public Service Board, Groundworks collaborative will be moving forward to help the homeless with food and shelter through a planned resource center downtown, the Our Town grant selection committee was appointed, and more.

On October 23rd there will be a free screening of MisLEAD, a documentary put together by Lead Safe America. The organization is founded by a mother who has two children that have been affected by lead poisoning.
Brooks Library, or Brooks Memorial Library?
I’ve always called our library the Brooks Memorial Library, think that “Memorial” was part of the name. More recently I’ve seen official library announcements in which it is called, simply, Brooks Library.
My question: which is it? Was the name officially shortened? Was it never as long as I thought?
I like to use the right name, but also don’t mind shaving off a few letters from a frequently-typed phrase.
What say ye?
What To Look For In A Language Program, and Free Demo Class
Express Fluency is offering a free Spanish class Thursday, September 10th from 6pm-7pm. Participants will experience a fun and effective way of acquiring language and will leave the class knowing how to order a drink, and tell a joke, in Spanish.
We will also share the secrets of language acquisition- which students can apply to any language they choose to pursue.

Windham County, VT – On Monday August 31st, Senator Patrick Leahy announced that the Brattleboro Development Credit Corporation (BDCC) has been awarded $265K by the US Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration. The federal award was the final piece of funding needed for a $530K project which will launch two major initiatives outlined in the Windham Region S.M.A.R.T. CEDS: Development of a Green Building Cluster Study and the initiation and operation of the Southern Vermont Business Innovation Accelerator.
First Public Hearing on the Draft Brattleboro Land Use Regulations

This will be the first of two public hearings the Planning Commission will hold on the draft Brattleboro Land Use Regulations. The second hearing will be on Wednesday, September 9, also at 6 p.m. in the Selectboard Meeting Room.
The revised draft is available for review online and at the Brattleboro Planning Services Department, Town Clerk’s Office and the Brooks Memorial Library.This is an entirely new set of land use regulations that will affect the entire town, replacing the current Brattleboro Zoning Ordinance and Brattleboro Subdivision Regulations.
A New Bellydance and Youth Mentorship Program Comes to Brattleboro!
SEEDs (self-esteem, empowerment, and education through dance) is an internationally recognized bellydance and mentorship program, originally founded in 2001 by Myra Krein in Santa Fe, New Mexico. After seeing so much success in Santa Fe, Myra began an intensive teacher training program–and there are now dozens of blossoming SEEDs programs across the globe.
After attending the teacher training in June 2015, local bellydancer Kelsey Eaton bringing this fun and transformational youth bellydance program to Brattleboro. Working alongside her is Devan Moran, a woman’s advocate who works locally to educate youth on healthy relationships, domestic violence, and consent.
BS&L Slated to Open New Branch Monday, Aug. 31
BRATTLEBORO, Vt. – Brattleboro Savings & Loan will open its new branch in Black Mountain Square on Putney Road, Brattleboro on Monday, Aug. 31.
The new location represents months of building and renovation and is the latest entirely solar-powered bank branch operated by BS&L, which became the first completely solar-powered bank in Vermont earlier this year.

Curious – Why No Carnivals With Rides in Brattleboro?
I was driving by Bondville yesterday and they were having the Bondville Fair, complete with rides such as Tilt a Whirls, Scramblers, giant slides, merry go rounds, and a Ferris Wheel and it got me thinking: Why doesn’t Brattleboro ever hold a carnival, with a midway, rides, food trucks, games, and so on?
No handfuls of tickets, no stepping over power cables, no sound of generators, no sight of colorful lights at the edges of every ride or booth.
