Enjoyable Jaunts Beyond Brattleboro

Brattleboro is a lovely place in the springtime, but sometimes, you just feel like going out and experiencing spring somewhere else for an afternoon.  This is especially true if you have out of town guests, as many of us do during the summer.  This year, we took advantage of my brother’s visit to take two very different day trips.  The first was down to Northampton, where we toured the many gardens of Smith College.  The second was a multi-stop drive out to southwestern Vermont where we checked out two lakes and the Southern Vermont Arts Center.  Both trips were great fun with plenty of variety to keep things interesting.

West Brattleboro Village Day, Saturday June 22

On Saturday, June 22, the West Brattleboro Association (WBA) will host its third annual West Brattleboro Village Day, 12:00 noon to 4:00 PM on the Village Green in front of the fire house.

The event promises to be fun for all ages! The Village Day will feature a bouncy house, juggling acts, trapeze demonstrations by Circus Arts, and hula hoop demonstrations by Alotta Hoopla! The Brattleboro Fire Department will have a fire truck on display and the Sheriff’s Department will be showing off their new rescue vehicle purchased after Irene caused damage in hard-to-get places. In addition there will be a pie contest and 50-50 raffle.

The No Film Film Festival

Falls Area Community Television (FACT TV) invites film lovers and budding filmmakers to attend the premier screening of the No Film Film Festival submissions on June 29, 2013. Doors open at 5:00 p.m. and the show starts at 6 p.m. at the Bellows Falls Opera House, with music provided by the Intercept.
“The No Film Film Festival is truly unique and can only be experienced to be adequately understood,” FACT TV Director Jacob Stradling said. On June 29th the films will premiere on the largest screen in southern Vermont at the world renowned Bellows Falls Opera House, “the only public viewing of these genre bending 1980s movie mashups,” Stradling said.

Escuelita Spanish School expands its Brattleboro offerings!

We were taught the grammar rules before we could speak and understand the language, and after several years of study we could conjugate verbs but couldn’t hold a conversation. BMH Center for Cardiovascular Health Welcomes Phaedra McDonough, APRN

Brattleboro Memorial Hospital announced that Phaedra McDonough, APRN has joined the medical staff at the BMH Center for Cardiovascular Health and is now accepting patients.

McDonough has eight years’ experience working in the Cardiology Unit at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene as well as previous experience in the Intensive Care Unit at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. She is a Cardiac Device Specialist with board certification from the International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners.

Brattleboro Internal Medicine Introduces New Office Manager

Why You Should Still Write To Your Congressmen (Even If You Think They Agree With You)

Lots of people seem to be upset with various aspects of American life, from education and healthcare to the economy and domestic surveillance.  Mostly we gripe about it and that’s it.  But there’s one simple thing we can all do that will actually help (more than doing nothing) and that is to write to your congressmen about it.  It may be true that no one is addressing your concerns, but you’ll have a better argument if you’ve at least told people about it.  More importantly, there are starting to be problems where it’s a bit like “speak now or forever hold your peace.” Or maybe, “now or never.”

HITTERS TAKE OVER IN CRVBL WEEKEND ACTION

Fans attending any of the past weekend’s games in the Connecticut River Valley Baseball League were treated to displays of heavy hitting, as each of the four contests featured impressive displays of offense.

On Thursday night in Dummerston, the Walpole Wild Blue thought they had their game with the Putney Fossils safely put away heading into the seventh and final inning with a 7-1 lead, but the Fossils fought back with four runs to fall short, 7-5. Walpole’s Joey Parrott got the win on the and scored two of his team’s runs, while Chris Ballou got the save, scored one run and drove in another. Center Fielder Jed St. Pierre had two hits, scored a run and stole a base. Putney Catcher Steve Stanley went two for three, scored a run and drove in a pair.

Assistant Director Needed
