Brattleboro 2013 Real Estate and Personal Property Taxes 2nd Installment Due
The second installment of the 2013 Real Estate and Personal Property Taxes will be due on November 15th, 2013. Payments made after November 15th, 2013 will have an additional 1% interest added to the unpaid balance.
The utility billing is also due on November 15th, 2013. Payments made after November 15th, 2013 will have an additional 1% interest, as well as an 8% penalty added to the unpaid balance.

Dear Abiah:-
I received a long letter from you last week. It was good. I commenced to answer Friday night, but had
occasion to leave the barracks, and when I returned some of our card players had stolen my candle and tipped over the ink upon the letter and spoiled that. This is the reason of my not writing sooner, and for writing upon such a soiled sheet as I now do. I went on guard Saturday morning. I am well except a slight cold that I took when on guard a week Sunday. It is slight but it hangs to me. I have been on since, without increasing it.
We are to have a better place to sleep when on guard duty than we have had. The building is cold as any barn, no place to sleep but on the floor, dare not take blankets for vermin abound there. Hope they will freeze out soon. There are nothing of the sort in the company barracks. I have seen the animals. They are monsters, no mistake. I have not been in Hinsdale since I went to the funeral. It has been my misfortune to be on some duty every Sunday morning since then. Yesterday in the afternoon was the first time that I have been to church since I came here.

He is a suspect associated in the theft of a backpack from a motor vehicle on Western Ave in Brattleboro. The theft of the backpack occurred on the afternoon of October 12, 2013.

Project Feed the Thousands 19th Annual Fundraising Kick-Off November 15, 2013
Brattleboro, Vermont – On Friday morning November 15th, Project Feed the Thousands will kick off its 19th annual food drive. The launch will take place at the Price Chopper Supermarket on Canal Street in Brattleboro, with a live broadcast hosted by long time media supporter, WTSA 96.7 FM.
The community goal this year is to raise $100,000 in cash and to collect enough provisions for 200,000 meals. The Project Feed the Thousands Team will collect non-perishable food, personal care items and cash donations on behalf of the thousands of people who face hunger each and every day throughout southeastern Vermont and southwestern New Hampshire.

During the November Gallery Walk, BUHS students used non-toxic spray chalk to create Smoke-Free Zone stencils on the sidewalks in front of supporting Brattleboro businesses.

I-91 Brattleboro Bridge Replacement Project Update – Week of November 10, 2013
I-91
Northbound I-91 traffic will be relocated onto the southbound bridge on Tuesday, November 12th. Traffic will remain reduced to one lane in each direction on I-91 until completion of the new bridge in the Fall of 2015.
Night work on the existing I-91bridge will begin on Tuesday night, November 12th and will continue for the next several months, until demolition is complete.
Route 30
The speed limit on Route 30 near the work zone has been reduced to 40 mph.

Chris Hart Guest at West Brattleboro Association Monthly Meeting
On Thursday, November 14, 6:00-7:30 pm, the West Brattleboro Association (WBA) will hold its monthly meeting at The New England House, 254 Marlboro Road. The Association will have a final wrap-up on the success of their Columbus Day Weekend Chicken Barbecue held Saturday, October 12, in addition to a report of their treasury given by new association treasurer, Tim Cuthbertson.
The group will also have a quick review of the various projects undertaken by the WBA including traffic safety, bulb plantings, signage, police/fire facilities, and the status of the Neighborhoods Project.
Work on 1-91 Bridge Replacement in Brattleboro Leads to I-91 Lane Closures for Next Two Years
MONTPELIER, Vt.—November 8, 2013–
Work is beginning in earnest on a project to replace two existing bridges on I-91 with a single, four-lane structure that will accommodate both northbound and southbound traffic.
The PCL+FIGG Team that is working under contract to the Vermont Agency of Transportation announced today that northbound I-91 traffic will be relocated to one of the lanes on the southbound bridge starting on Tuesday, November 12th and continuing until the existing northbound bridge is demolished. Once the northbound bridge is demolished and the new bridge has been constructed, traffic will be rerouted to the new bridge while the southbound bridge is demolished. Throughout this process, traffic will be reduced to a single lane in each direction on I-91 until completion of the project in the Fall of 2015.
Energy Committee Recognizes Local Green Businesses
The Brattleboro Energy Committee is pleased to announce the three recipients of the 2013 Sustainable Business Awards. The three award winners are Triple T Trucking, Cultural Intrigue, and the Brattleboro Food Co-op. These awards are given annually to Brattleboro-area businesses and nonprofits that are making extraordinary efforts to reduce energy and water use, lower carbon emissions, use renewable fuels, reduce solid waste, promote local food production, and use recycled materials and other environmentally-friendly products.
The awards will be presented at the Tuesday, November 19 Brattleboro Selectboard meeting, beginning at 6:15 pm in the Brattleboro Municipal Center, 230 Main Street.

Senate Passes Employment Non-Discrimination Act
WASHINGTON, Nov. 4 – Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) welcomed today’s 64-32 Senate vote in favor of a bill to prohibit workplace discrimination against gay, bisexual and transgender Americans.
“I am very pleased that the Senate has taken this important step toward making America the democratic and inclusive society it should be,” Sanders said. “Today’s vote was a long-overdue victory in the struggle to end workplace discrimination against gay and transgender Americans.”
