Want to Warm Up Your Vermont Social Life Meeting New Friends?

Got the long winter blues? Want to make new friends in Vermont?Tired of meeting singles far away on the internet?

It is easy to meet people right here in Vermont who you might become personally interested in by volunteering for any political campaign.

For single people, Republican and Democratic campaign functions are a real “meet market”.

As an independent candidate, the best “meet market” I can offer you  is to ask you to volunteer to collect political campaign signatures for me.

Tuesday will be a busy day. You’ll need to take time to go vote for mostly unopposed candidates, and take time to go observe the new Police and Fire Plans and attend the Brattleboro Selectboard meeting to express your Police and Fire Facility comments in an official, public capacity before they approve them as presented.

The board will give out the first liquor license to a new Brooks House business, a restaurant with owners from Colorado, and approve annual licenses for a list of other local establishments. Utility rates will be get a first reading, new electric vehicle charging stations for the Transportation Center will be discussed, the Town Manger search 2.0 will kick off, the Selectboard will discuss goals for the coming year, and more.

You can attend in person and bring up anything not otherwise on the agenda, or watch on BCTV. We’ll have the full report Wednesday.

Not In Your History Books – Part 2

Joseph Sullivan, the CEO of Hinsdale Greyhound Park, agreed to be interviewed by a Keene High School student in his corporate office on October 26, 2004. The American Studies assignment required the students to interview various owners of dissimilar businesses located throughout Cheshire County. Their objective was to gain an understanding of the impact these various businesses have on their respective communities from an economic, social, and historical perspective. Upon completion of the class project, the student interviews would be published in the Keene Sentinel which did not happen.

The Land Where the Blues Began: Images and Music of the Mississippi Delta with Scott Ainslie

Get your tickets now! Join the Friends of Brooks Memorial Library on Friday, March 21, at 7:30 PM, for a concert to support the services and programs at Brooks Memorial Library–The Land Where the Blues Began: Images and Music of the Mississippi Delta with Scott Ainslie.

Scott Ainslie has combed the Library of Congress photo archives and combined archival photos with his own images of the Mississippi Delta for a concert tour that explores this formative region of the American South. Visually and musically entertaining, the concert is a richly varied exploration of the region that was ground zero for the development of the Blues.

Weekend Concert Series: Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin

Judy Garland had a CBS Sunday night TV show in the early 1960’s – The Judy Garland Show.

It comes at a somewhat depressing point in her life. After years of being fed uppers and downers by movie studios, getting divorced, and getting into some serious debt and contractual problems, she was in a difficult spot. TV success, those around her reasoned, might be the only thing to pull her life back into order.

She was 40 years old when this was filmed. It got four Emmy nominations.

Film: Money and Life, Tues, March 4

Transition Putney & Putney Library Present Film: MONEY & LIFE, Tues, March 4, 7- 9 p.m, at Putney Library
(Short discussion following the film.)

-What is real wealth?
-How can money serve people, rather than vice versa?
-What does it really mean to “make a living”, and how can we free ourselves from cycles of debt and consumption?
-How can we align our financial choices with our most deeply held values?
-What are the possibilities – and examples – of alternative monetary systems and currencies?

Write In Vote – Kathryn Turnas II

I decided to run as a write in candidate for the one year Brattleboro Select Board seat on March 4th.    I figure that this should not be a walk-in.  I am one of the District 3 reps and plan to continue as such.  I do not support the present plans for the Police and Fire as they stand and know there are other alternatives and how this will effect the property taxes in the future.  How many cuts can you make without shredding all of the necessary needs of this community?

Please write me in:

Kathryn Turnas II.

Get Great Coffee as a Reward for Helping African Farmers Get Organic Certification.

A donation for as little as $7 can make a difference, and yes, you get a cafe drink as a reward. It really is that easy.

Mocha Joe’s has helped more than 50 farmers get organic certification.(To make the program sustainable they need to certify many more.)

Mocha Joe’s is also helping to set up a fund so that the farmers can avoid taking out loans at rates that are as high as 200%. How? By funding the local credit union. Every dollar we raise, helps create that fund, and help the farmers join the credit union.

Open Letter to President Maduro

Dear President Maduro, slanderous Western media, promoting war and violence for capital gains of the mercilessly amoral automaton functioning speculative interest banking industry, has put you in their spotlight to better target you with defamation. This is then your opportunity to be heard a bit world-wide. In telling the truth about the USA, you will be protecting all of us, Venezuela included.

SeVEDS Funding Requests on Town Meeting Warnings in Windham Region

Southeastern Vermont Economic Development Strategies (SeVEDS) support requests will be on the Town Meeting warning in ten Southeastern Vermont towns this Tuesday March 4th. For the third year in a row SeVEDS is asking towns to support the regional effort at a $3 per person calculation.

The aging and declining population in the Windham Region has impacted the size and quality of the overall workforce, regional employers’ ability to grow, and the ability to maintain funding for quality of life priorities for residents. SeVEDS considers reversing this trend to be beyond the capacity of individual towns, and credits its regional board and regional funding with demonstrating that all towns in southeastern Vermont have a stake in growing the regional economy and workforce.
