This article is full of coincidences. 12 Senators on the 12th of April. April 12th is the 102 day of the year. 102 is 12 in numerology. In Gematria,  FCC=12 in English Ordinal. Time is measured in 2 groups of 12, the 12 labors of Heracles. The 12 step program. 12 is the square root of 144. 144,000 is a significant number for religious people.

Artist at MGFA with Matt Brown featuring Live Demonstration

Mitchell • Giddings Fine Arts is excited to host an Artist Talk with Matt Brown on Saturday, April 21 at 5pm. Brown will be discussing his current exhibit “Conversations with Color Woodblock Prints”, on display at Mitchell • Giddings Fine Arts through May 6. The talk will include a demonstration by Brown of the Japanese hanga method of printmaking used by Hokusai, Kunisada and Hiroshige, a technique in which each print is created entirely by hand using water and pigments applied to multiple carved wooden blocks. One woodblock corresponds to one color within a print, and each is transferred to paper by a small hand-held baren.

“Conversations with Color Woodblock Prints” features over 40 prints, with many new pieces, as well as watercolor and pencil studies, working proofs and progressive states, providing viewers a glimpse into the artist’s continuous dialogue with his imagery and materials. Often changes made over several years create subtle, or dramatic, re-imagining of Brown’s initial vision.

Just Desserts Fundraiser from Friends of Brooks Memorial Library

The Friends of Brooks Memorial Library will celebrate National Library Week (April 8 to April 14) with a dessert fundraiser and “Friendraiser” on Friday, April 13, 2018 from 7pm to 9pm at the Brooks Memorial Library.

The Friends will offer a selection of desserts, as well as tea and coffee.

Various prizes, many handcrafted by area artists, will be raffled off. The cost is $10.00 per person and includes dessert and coffee as well as 3 raffle tickets. You may also purchase extra tickets — 3 for $5.

Brattleboro Selectboard Agenda and Notes – April 17, 2018

The Brattleboro Selectboard will receive an update on the skatepark financing and schedule from members of BASIC at their next regular meeting. They’ll also accept a $15,000 challenge grant for the project.

The board will order a new fire truck, discuss dumped tires and clean rivers, consider a letter regarding tax implications of an Act 46 merger, set goals, review rules of conduct, adopt an emergency operations plan, and more. You can bring up other items not on the agenda during Public Participation.

It’s a celebration of local and regional original humanities and science presentations and performances, spoken word arts, and music presented as a broadcast and web variety program, recorded during live listening events on a simple stage in a former industrial building in Bellows Falls, Vermont; a nonprofit endeavor run entirely by volunteers. ACLU Calls On Local Governments To Pursue Public Broadband

As Brattleboro begins down the path toward adding municipal broadband utility, the ACLU has weighed in with a new report “The Public Internet Option – How Local Governments Can Provide Network Neutrality, Privacy, and Access for All.”

The report compares the necessity of internet access to that of electricity and water, and says that the rollback of net neutrality laws and enforcement threatens equal access (as we have for say, roads and bridges).

Governor Scott: On February 16, I was in my office preparing for the day ahead, when everything changed. That morning, I was handed a document containing charges against an 18-year-old, outlining his detailed plan to carry out a school shooting here in Vermont.

Just two days earlier, we had all witnessed the atrocity in Parkland Florida leaving 17 innocent people – Fourteen children and 3 teachers – dead.

As I read the 13-page affidavit, I was alarmed to learn just how close we came to the same tragic fate the people of Parkland faced.

Comic Robyn Schall to Perform at the River Garden

VTC Nursing Students To Host Bone Marrow Drive in Brooks’ House Atrium

Brattleboro, VT, March 10, 2018—The Honor Society  and Community Service of the VTC ADN Nursing Program in Brattleboro, in partnership with Rutland Regional Medical Center and Be the Match Registry©, are hosting a Bone Marrow Drive in the Brooks House Atrium in Brattleboro on Saturday, April 21, 9AM-2PM. Donors need to be between the ages of 18 and 44 years old. Register with just paperwork and a cheek swab!

“Every four minutes, someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer like leukemia,” according to the Be the Match© website. The only hope for individuals with blood cancers, like leukemia or other blood disorders, such as sickle cell anemia, is a marrow transplant. By donating bone marrow one can help save people’s lives, such as five-year-old Kate, whose donor, Lance, was a college student and due to his participation in a campus-drive and follow-through with emails, blood work, and of course his donation, Kate will now lead a healthy life.
