The board of the Windham Southeast Supervisory Union (WSESU), the supervisory union made up of Vernon and the four communities of the Windham Southeast School District (WSESD), is seeking a diverse group of parents and community members to serve on our upcoming Superintendent Search Committees. The Superintendent Search Committees will work to screen applications and interview candidates with a goal of recommending a list of finalists for the WSESU board’s consideration.
The Windham Southeast School District Amendment and Policy Committee will meet at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, March 2, 2020 at the WSESU Central Office, 53 Green Street, Brattleboro.
A community forum is scheduled on Saturday, February 29, starting at 10:00am, at the Brooks Memorial Library to address the recent vehicle break-ins in Brattleboro. Although the forum is not a Selectboard meeting, it is expected that a majority of Selectboard members will attend; however, no Selectboard action will be taken at the forum.

Tell everyone a bit about yourself… who are you?
My name is Ian Goodnow. I grew up in Essex, Vermont and graduated from the University of Vermont in 2014, with degrees in Political Science and Russian Language. I’m currently enrolled in the Vermont Law Office Study Program, which is an alternative way to become a lawyer in Vermont. Instead of law school, I moved to Brattleboro to study under Tom Costello at Costello, Valente and Gentry P.C. I am also a Justice of the Peace and through that role serve on the Board of Civil Authority and am the alternate on the Developmental Review Board. In my free time, I love backpacking, eating dumplings with Ruth, my fiancee, and talking about movies.
Below is information that might be helpful to know for March 3rd local elections. In addition to local elections, the Democratic and Republican Primaries will be held.
Attached is a sample ballot from each of Brattleboro’s three districts. All districts’ ballots are the same except for Town Meeting Members for each district. Absentee ballots are currently available at the Town Clerk’s Office and may be requested until 5:00 pm on Monday, March 2. Sample ballots can also be found on our website at www.brattleboro.org under Elections.
There is an old saying about how, when asked to explain what one means by what one says nine out of ten people will become angry or silent. The one who does not become offended or feel attacked but rather is stimulated and eager for an opportunity to engage and learn would be a person like Oscar Heller, candidate for a one-year Selectboard seat.
The desire and ability to listen and learn is also a strong indicator of self-confidence and thoughtfulness, both of which are very apparent in Mr. Heller. He will bring a particularly strong understanding and voice concerning the most unabated, vexing and critical issue of our time: climate change and all its inseparable aspects.

Are you looking for a way to positively influence the lives of young people and families in Windham County? If you answered yes to the above questions, Youth Services wants you!
Youth Services is organizing Can Windham County Dance?, its third annual gala with a goal of $20,000 raised to strengthen the safety net for area young people and families. This spring, Can Windham County Dance? gala will take place on Saturday, April 25 at the Hilltop Montessori campus in Brattleboro. Four dancing numbers are confirmed but the organization is looking for 2-3 more.
Can Cops Cook is a family-friendly cooking competition hosted by Safe Place Child Advocacy Center. This year, in addition to our usual Law Enforcement participants, we have also invited members from the Brattleboro Fire Department, Probation and Parole, Rescue Inc, DCF, and the Windham County State’s Attorney’s Office. It will be an event with some stiff competition!
Putney- Sandglass Theater’s Winter Sunshine Series continues its 13th season of puppet shows for young audiences with The Fairy Circus by Tanglewood Marionettes on Saturday, March 7th at 11am and 2pm. The Fairy Circus features over twenty turn-of-the-century-style trick puppets. The puppets dance, play instruments, juggle, contort, transform, and fly through the air with the greatest of ease, all to the best-loved music of favorite composers. This show is sure to delight young children and family audiences alike.
The Brattleboro Selectboard meeting previously scheduled on Tuesday, March 3, has been CANCELLED. That is election day and there are no time-sensitive matters that the Board must decide at that time. The next scheduled Selectboard meeting will take place on Tuesday, March 17, at 6:15pm in the Selectboard Meeting Room at the Municipal Center.
Broad Brook Grange’s annual Sugar on Snow Supper will be held Saturday, March 7, at the Broad Brook Community Center in Guilford. The meal features ham, and the following homemade items: baked beans, deviled eggs, scalloped potatoes, cole slaw, rolls, donuts, Guilford pickles, and Guilford maple sugar on Guilford snow.
There will be three seatings: at 5:00, 6:00 and 7:00 pm. At each seating, a half-gallon of Guilford maple syrup will be raffled.
The Town of Guilford will hold its annual Town Meeting on Tuesday, March 3 at the Guilford Central School gym. The Meeting will be convened at 10:00 am, at which time polls will open for Australian balloting.
This year, balloting will take place both for local offices and for the U.S. Presidential Primary. Polls will close at 7:00 p.m.
Free childcare will be provided starting at 9:30 am, and continuing until 1:30 p.m. So that the providers will know about how many children to expect, it is requested that parents contact Laura Lawson Tucker ahead of time to give an idea of how many will be using the service.

I have been a Town Meeting Rep for the past 3 years for District #2. I have been on 50 Vine Street since 2012. Before that we lived in Marlboro from 1993 – 2011. We lived at 395 Canal Street and on Frost Place since 1980.
I am an active member of Brattleboro Time Trade since 2012. I drive a Senior Meals on Wheels route twice a week in District 2. I was a member of the Human Services Review Committee this year. I have been involved with the Vermont Workers Center’s Health Care for All campaigns as a videographer. I have been a volunteer producer with Brattleboro Community Television since 2012.
