An immensely powerful AI engine could be loaded with everything we know, good or bad. It can know about love, puppies, and flowers. It can be told about torture and abuse. Those programming it can set a direction.
Would it be better to go forth relying on something that knows evil, or should evil be programmed out of the AI system?

World renowned organist returns to Brattleboro to support the Estey Organ Museum. Hans presented a recital on the magnificent Estey pipe organ at First Baptist Church, Brattleboro, Vermont, on Saturday, October 8, 2016.
Brattleboro kids do a great job with Halloween. Impressive amounts of creative work go into choosing and making costumes. Maybe adults in town can up the ante with a bit more Halloween prop making.
YouTube is filled with videos on makeup, costumes, haunted mansions and so forth. I’ve chosen this one as it gives a good overview of some easy tombstones, which seem essential for any Halloween haunted graveyard.

Early Vermont histories portrayed this area’s aboriginal peoples as transients who occasionally passed through southern Vermont, en route to and from Northern New York and Canada, but were ultimately not residents of the area and therefor had little claim on these lands.

Brattleboro Bridge Replacement Project Update: Week of October 24th
I-91
Northbound I-91 traffic has been relocated onto the southbound bridge. Traffic will remain reduced to one lane in each direction on I-91 until completion of the new bridge. The new bridge will be 104’ wide and is designed to carry all four lanes of traffic –two northbound and two southbound.

38th Annual Putney Craft Tour Named Top Ten Vermont Winter Event and Approved as an Official Vermont Arts 2016 Event
PUTNEY, VT—October 18, 2016—For the third year in a row, the Vermont Chamber of Commerce has named the Annual Putney Craft Tour as a Top Ten Winter Event (2016/17). The tour has also been approved as a Vermont Arts Council 2016 event. Also of note, the tour is the oldest continuing craft studio tour in North America.
The excitement over a new Town Clerk, a maximum price set for Central Fire Station, and completed plans for the Police Station was somewhat tempered by the news that a longtime friend of Town government and volunteerism, James Banslaben, had passed away. The board offered heartfelt memories and was genuinely moved by the unexpected news.
Late fees and penalties due to the Town’s scheduling of Water & Sewer bills will not be abated, garbage is good, and child victims may gain an advocate.
The Reformer headlined a story this past Monday about a report done by BDCC, the Brattleboro Development Credit Corporation on the closing of Yankee. BDCC has for decades been the first and last word on the local economy and local economic development. The gist of the report was a review of the major problems associated with the closing of a nuke plant. I also read part of the report itself. Maybe I should have read it all. However everything I read focused on what all the major parties involved in the closing and post closing affairs were doing since about 2010, two years before the plant was scheduled to close.
The Death Café Comes Back to Brattleboro!
Brattleboro, Vermont . On Thursday evening, November 3rd, from 6:00pm-7:30pm, Brattleboro Area Hospice will host a Death Café at The Restless Rooster, at 134 Elliot Street, in Brattleboro. This free event is part of an international movement begun in Europe (www.deathcafe.com ), and is dedicated to taking death out of the closet in order to discuss it publicly.
Previous events that have taken place throughout Windham County have been met with tremendous praise. People have reported them as comfortable, supporting a full range of emotions – from tears to raucous laughter, easier than anticipated, energy charged, inspirational and fun.

2) What specific steps should be taken to fight ISIS?
Hi! I’m candidate Cris Ericson for United States Senator for Vermont.
First of all, this question presumes that a candidate would agree that steps should be taken to fight ISIS. WNYT presents no facts in evidence to support the basis for this presumption. Just who do you think ISIS is? This is not a football game, where someone declares the team colors and says, “go, fight, win team, go, fight, win!”.
Every now and again, I like to take a step back and see where we are. So here, three weeks from the presidential elections, are some of the news stories that define our present situation. Is it a good situation? I’ll leave that for you to judge.
First, the elections: Trump made a run at it but as I wrote on a piece of paper on June 10 of this year and still see daily on my dresser, “It’s going to be Hillary.” In short, it’s all over but the shouting, but boy are they shouting, daily from the headlines. We happened to catch the 5 o’clock hour on the car radio yesterday afternoon and every newscast led off with a Trump story, strongly anti-Trump at that (not that he doesn’t give people plenty of ammo).
